Also, any ideas on readings/anything we should be doing over the summer? Last day of work is Friday, going to have some freetime and unsure if I need to be doing anything besides relaxing.
There's step by step instructions on how to do the phone set up! I can't remember how I got to the link I believe there was a link to it in the email where we got our LionMail set up info!

Am I supposed to email my roommates? I didn't even think about it until I saw someone post concerned they didn't get the contact information...

I have had great success with the GMail app. Loads Columbia e-mail right up along with my primary GMail account. I like it far more than the built in mail app.

Has anyone heard from financial aid office yet about loans. Filled out all the forms, cleared credit check with studentloans.gov, etc. Financial aid office told me they'd be in touch in late June, but I've yet to hear anything.

Nothing yet. I'd be surprised if we hear anything from them before the last week of July, but hard to say.

They emailed me about missing information last week.

It does work! You just need to log in to LawNet or make sure you're logged in before you click the link.

Now it does, but it didn't when they sent the email, or the other times I checked through the week until this morning.

The 1L curriculum page seems to have the most useful info. Hadn't seen this before, re: first semester:
You will be assigned to one of the following groupings:

Civil Procedure + Torts + Constitutional Law
Civil Procedure + Torts + Contracts
Civil Procedure + Torts + Property

Selling "Legal Methods: Understanding and using cases and statutes" Third Edition by Peter L. Strauss (ISBN: 978-1-60930-199-6) for $50 OBO. Bought brand new last year, like new - very little highlighting/writing on the actual textbook (maybe on 20 out of 778 pages). I'm on campus so I can meet you any time after work hours. Email me at: stacy.kim@law.columbia.edu.

Hello incoming 1Ls! I'm a rising 2L at CLS looking for a new roommate/place to live, because of my dog. (She's super friendly and well-trained, but my new UAH-assigned roommate is allergic.) If you or someone you know is looking for a roommate, feel free to PM me with any questions, etc.

I look forward to meeting some of you soon-ish!

Anyone know when first tuition payment is due? Are we supposed to buy books prior to orientation? Will they give me any CLS swag gear at orientation, or do I need to by it all myself (e.g., t-shirt or sweatshirt)

First statements are due September 18 and should come out August 10. http://sfs.columbia.edu/files/sfs/conte ... .12.15.pdf

This is also helpful: http://sfs.columbia.edu/billing/ways-to-pay

I think it's weird that I haven't gotten any billing information though (maybe I just missed it?)

Hey guys, silly question. How are our students loans actually distributed to us? I don't remember providing any info to the university about my bank account.
Sorry for being a noob.

When the money hits your student account (assuming you submitted your loan forms), the school takes the money needed for this semesters tuition & fees and the rest is made accessible to you.

Go to this site to setup direct deposit to your account: https://ssol.columbia.edu/

If you didn't/don't do that, you'll have to go get a check processed for you, which is a huge bureaucratic hassle.

Is it just me or are there one too many sites we need to keep track of in order to check our various information? Is there a way we can check everything at once?

Slash is it just me or is Columbia really bad at letting us know what to expect, when and how..? Maybe my undergrad institution was just that on top of everything

Hey has anyone moved in yet? Can you walk us through what expect, i.e. where to go, how the process works, are there bins or staff to help us? I'm going to be on crutches and worried that this is going to go horribly wrong.

Yeah there are way too many. LawNet seems to be the primary one for most academic-related items, SSOL seems to be for administrative stuff. There are others as well related to IT, financial aid, etc, but those seem to be the two major ones.

Was pretty straightforward for me. You go to the UAH office at 401 West 119th with your photos at your appointment time, sign your contract, and then you go to the building and get your keys from the super, and start moving stuff up. I assume it varies building to building whether there are carts, building staff to help, etc.

+1 ^

It takes about 15 minutes going through the process of signing your lease. The biggest problem is parking. I had to roam around the streets near campus for ~35 minutes before anything opened up. You may be in for a hike if your street is super busy.

I know we need to be there for registration, but are all of the events/presentations on Monday & Tuesday mandatory as well?

Hard to say, but I would assume so. I mean I doubt they're gonna be taking attendance and penalizing us if we don't show, but I would guess they want us there, particularly for the "Community and Citizenship" session and that kind of stuff.

Yeah, I'd assume mandatory, or at least highly recommended. I think they're just emphasizing for certain groups that particular meetings are ultra important. Anyway, most of the events are things I'd go to even if they were optional.

Dat 94 degree forecast tho :(

Same here, super excited for most the events. But there were a couple I'd pass on, if only to avoid 11 straight hours of orientation programming lol

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
