If we haven't heard back from Columbia in terms of financial aid by now, should we assume we won't be getting much money?

Re: Columbia Class of 2018
I requested that they email me, but I haven't gotten the hard copy yet. They did offer me some money, so if you are just waiting for the hard copy, you might still get something when it finally arrives.

How long do you think it should take them to reply to an appeal on their award decision?

My unsuccessful appeal took one week.

Deadline in less than 2 weeks and still nothing. I had called 2 weeks ago and was told my package had been completed and that I would hear back within the week's end. Tried calling today and was sent to the machine. What is going on

Got my offer, about what I expected, and already committed to Penn so irrelevant anyways.

I would definitely second this - I got my offer via email on Friday and the hard copy still hasn't arrived (although I guess I'm just assuming that they're still mailing it as well).betty_bojangles wrote: I would advise you to call if you still haven't gotten an offer.

Whats the policy with financial aid grants and deferrals? I called today and they said that unless financial circumstances change, my grant would most likely be re-awarded after the deferral year, but that I would need to apply again. Seems a bit too flexible for my liking. Do you guys know anyone who has gone through this process?

Hi all!
Now that I finally paid the deposit money, I'm looking into the housing options.
Does anyone know if there's any real difference among apartment share options for buildings on 115th street and 116th street?
All I can tell from the website is that utilities are not included in the rent for the one on 116th street...

Anyone else still waiting on finaid? This is pretty stressful.
Any precedent on them giving us a little extra time if we don't have any aid info yet?

Here's to wishful thinking!
Maybe I should include this in my negotiation letters with other schools..."So, rumor has it that Obama is going to be teaching at CLS. That has to be worth what, around $75K?"

Re: Columbia Class of 2018
I got my award last week. Question, is this a need-based award or merit-based? I know from their website:
"Columbia Law School awards grant assistance primarily on the basis of demonstrated financial need. However, there are a number of fellowships that are not based on financial need, which are awarded by the Admissions Office at the time an applicant is admitted to the Law School. There is no separate application for these fellowships."
http://web.law.columbia.edu/financial-aid/introduction
That would suggest that short of a Butler/Hamilton with your acceptance any award this week was "primarily" need-based?
Though I've seen posters on TLS saying that it's a combination. Currently reading through old threads to find an answer.

According to other posts I've read, CLS calls all aid that's not awarded at the time of admission "need-based," but the amount they give you is actually calculated by a combination of merit and need.
