Re: NYU c/o 2018
has anyone's status checker registered that they've received the official transcript and questionnaire etc? I sent mine in about 2 weeks ago and it still says it hasn't been received. Im wondering if i need to get my school to ship it again.

I'm new to this thread so I apologize if this topic has been addressed. What is everyone doing in terms of a dining plan? Not sure if there is a school cafeteria and/or a meal plan, but if there was, are you planning on using them? Or would you eat out every day, which seems like it'd be quite pricey?

Re: NYU c/o 2018
there are meal plans, but i don't know of anyone who has one
vanderbilt and furman both have cafes serving breakfast and lunch
pretty reasonably priced. each cafe has a $3.50 sandwich deal and there are filtered water stations near both to fill up water bottles
also there will be many on-campus events that have free food
off-campus, there are plenty of super cheap lunch options like dollar pizza, papaya dog, and 7-11 within a block or two
no shortage of options; it's the village. if you want to blow 50 bucks on a super fancy lunch you can do that too

Alternatively, bring lunch and store it in the fridge in Kushner Lounge.

Re: NYU c/o 2018
I've recently decided to attend NYU. I'll be moving with my SO, but unfortunately we do not know much about New York rental market. The housing prices through NYU seem quite high. Is it feasible to find a 1 bedroom or non-cramped studio for $1800-2000 within a mile of the law buildings?

Highly unlikely. Close to NYU is some of the most expensive real estate in the city - from a quick perusal, you're looking upwards of $2500 for a decent size studio or a 1br, but I'd venture a guess it would be closer to $3000 to be close to NYU. The school has couples housing, but I'm sure that's full by now, but it might be worth a call.pkraft1 wrote:I've recently decided to attend NYU. As a reference point, my SO and I pay $2600 for a large 1br in the Upper West. Commute is 20-30 minutes door to door. At your price point, my guess is you'd have to go to BK.

How important would you say it is to live close to the school during 1L? Can you share what hours you're normally on campus each day? I'm also coming with an SO and living off campus seems more feasible for us (we have a cat, furniture, need a year round apartment, etc). I would love to save $$ by being out in Brooklyn, but keeping hearing about how important it is to be close to campus during 1L.Synch wrote:Highly unlikely. Is a long commute an issue because students go back and forth between home and campus several times a day?

No, you can totally have a long commute 1L. I'd just be prepared to spend your day on campus at least 4 days of the week. It can work very well, because you can get your work done between classes during the day, and by the time you go home, you'll be able to relax.ip123 wrote:How important would you say it is to live close to the school during 1L? Re: NYU c/o 2018
Agree with BOM - my commute is only 30 each way, but I generally stay on campus from 9-6, when it's not exam time. Many of my friends commute from BK as well, and it's really no problem. I very much like getting all my work done on campus - so that home can be a break from law school.
Basically, I don't think it's important to be near campus, unless you're very into the happy hour/drinking scene (I never went to a single bar review last year, it wasn't convenient for me).

Do you think it's too late to get accommodated in one of the dorms at this point? Got off the waitlist and submitted the housing app, but haven't heard anything. Anybody else with me?
