Ahh ok I won't qualify for it but thanks!!tonysoprano wrote:I called and they said it's need-based and that you have to file the NA to be considered. I believe they may have also said you have to contact their office to let them know you're interested in obtaining a travel stipend after you've filed NA. I'm not 100% on that second part, but I can't imagine it would hurt to show interest if they're going to be looking at your finances anyways.ChemEng1642 wrote:Just bought my flight and registered for the March ASW - hope to see some of you there!
Will probably be asking them about a travel stipend soon - will report back here unless someone already has that info!

Where are you guys registering for ASW? Everytime I click on the 'RSVP' link it just takes me in a circle.

Try a different browser--that happened to me on Chrome, but I was able to get it to work with Firefox.LawBron James wrote:Where are you guys registering for ASW? Everytime I click on the 'RSVP' link it just takes me in a circle.

Well, 50 or 60 spots. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that they'll keep rolling out in the next few weeks.

50 or 60 interviews for how many RTKs across the many scholarships? Like 20? Those are good odds, right? Why do I feel sad about that level of competition.Skool wrote:Well, 50 or 60 spots. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that they'll keep rolling out in the next few weeks.

I would think so. The other point is that plenty of RTKs are going to have HYS or other named scholarship offers. Some people are never going to be talked away from those offers, even if they will entertain the idea of interviewing for RTK. That reduces the pool too.

What is everyone doing in terms of accommodation for ASW? I really hope I can get a stipend or I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

I am staying with a friend that lives in NYC - I wonder if you could try reaching out to current students and see if one of them will be willing to host you though? You probably have gotten a bunch of emails from different groups and they may be able to help?LawBron James wrote:What is everyone doing in terms of accommodation for ASW? It might be worth it to check out airbnb. Lots of people rent out rooms in their apartments relatively cheaply (I did a quick look and saw several apartments in the east village for ~$55 a night).LawBron James wrote:What is everyone doing in terms of accommodation for ASW? That is, if you're comfortable with staying in a bedroom in a stranger's apartment.
You can also get a dorm room in a nearby hostel for $50 a night (http://www.hostels.com/hostels/new-york ... ilability&).
But to echo ChemEng, staying with a friend or current student would be much easier on the wallet.

Yeah thats a good call. I have family that lives out in the burbs but that commute doesn't sound fun. Im going to reach out to one of the student orgs that emailed me and if not hit a hostel/airbnb.ChemEng1642 wrote:I am staying with a friend that lives in NYC - I wonder if you could try reaching out to current students and see if one of them will be willing to host you though? This is the most frustrating part of the application process for me. But I need to stop putting it off soon... or now...w0w wrote: Okay, I plan on doing my parents info on need access tonight.
