Do the offers sent today include need-based aid, or is it merit only?

Thanks for this. I was in the midst of writing a negotiation letter based on Wahrheit's reasoning. Your gentle admonition stopped me dead in my tracks.Mal Reynolds wrote:Your special snowflake logic is harmful to a lot of people who might see it as valid justification for scholarship awards. It's obviously not.Wahrheit wrote:I know the wisdom, Mal. They don't need to incentivize you at all. If you're such a special snowflake maybe you should reapply RD next year.

Might be both? I filled out NeedAccess and got my offer today.Wahrheit wrote:Merit. Mentioned in the email.whereselizabeth wrote:Do the offers sent today include need-based aid, or is it merit only?

I've heard there's more of an advantage to applying early when it comes to scholarship money than admission. Is that true? i.e. is there going to be less money the mid-late feb admits? (I was admitted in the wave a week or so ago)

Congrats to everyone who got good news! Sorry to everyone else who got less than good news. This has made my decision so much clearer. Wahrheit I hate that you didn't hear what you had hoped to hear, I was rooting for you.

I think you can negotiate up, but it would probably have to be a rare combination of super convincing negotiating timed right after they've had a few Ruby's withdraw. I wouldn't bank on it.foamborn wrote:ach, alright. thanks.Mack.Hambleton wrote:Yes that's my understandingfoamborn wrote:so if we received scholarship info r we out of the running for ruby?

As much as I am loath to limit the highly important polls this thread has had for the last couple weeks, can I suggest we copy NYUs scholarship award one?

Chicago will almost certainly be willing to negotiate. If they aren't, you shouldn't come here. Turning down a full-ride at top-ten school to pay sticker price at a top-five school is not a good idea.

I love the school, and I wholeheartedly endorse this sentiment. I imagine you'll be able to negotiate up but (depending on the other school, I guess, and your goals) I wouldn't pay more than half here, and possibly not that much.Canof09 wrote:hitherim wrote:Shots fired. I was under the impression UCAPP was just the thing we filled out for loans--it's under the loans section on the admitted students' site...Wahrheit wrote:Of need? My email said that was coming later. Second wave of Rubensteins hasn't gone out yet. Wisdom is you are out of the running if you get another scholly award. A lot to hope for but you never know!Cradle6 wrote:How so?everything_bagel wrote:could be good news...ChemEng1642 wrote:Feeling left out of the scholarship wave

Wow, lots of $75k-$99k in the poll! That's fantastic (for some reason I was under the impression Chicago didn't give much merit aid, but that amount seems quite generous).
