Can I get some insight on this too? I emailed the financial aid office regarding a question about scholarships--wondering if admissions was who I should have emailed

Just got a really generous (match) offer from Berkeley! Sooo excited. I had just about given up on this being an option.

PM for details. Happy to share my experience with admissions / fin aid.

So what are we doing about the deposit deadline, people who haven't heard back? Berk's only an option for me if they fully match, so I might do the tentative commitment until my other commitment/deposit deadline, then withdraw.

What school did u submit for matching purposes?

+2 on the use of the Cornell offer. I wonder how many of us used Cornell since they were generous this year...could this be why there's a hold up? ahah

Woooowww. Email just now that matching request is being held

Just got an email saying my matching app has been held, and that they will make a decision on it sometime between April 20 and May 6.

Count me in the held group as well. Seems like quite a few of us got that email... Wonder how likely that makes us to get a yes.

+1000000. They made it sound like being held is a huge privilege bestowed upon the most worthy. But they never mentioned that literally everyone is most worthy.

Probably some combination of:
-people will withdraw
-gives them more time to make decisions
-they don't care

Didn't someone say that Berkeley extended the deadline to accept until April 20th? Maybe that's why we are being held?

Seriously. And the whole "we're pleased to inform you" made my heart stop thinking they had given something, and then my eyes scanned the page for some numeric figure only to be greeted by a cold "held"

Got the held email also. Out of curiosity did everyone else who got held submit a scholarship with a deadline that falls between April 20 and May 6, or is there anyone who submitted with an earlier deadline?

I can't wait until May 6 for a decision.

Held as well. My scholarship deadline does fall between April 20th and May 6th.

I've read last years thread, but don't remember...does anyone have any idea approximately what percentage of held applicants (who don't withdraw) are offered matching scholarships? The odds don't seem great given how many applications they seem to hold.

Seems like 2 people (possibly a third) who were waiting on matching scholarships got offered the "Boalt Hall Scholarship" for $30,000. A couple mentioned they got denied (AFTER the deadline, no less). No one came back to say they had gotten their full match, although the board stopped getting new entries not long after, so they may have just moved on...

Where do you get this info?

I was granted a partial match of $45,000, but ruled ineligible for any need aid. Devastated to have to decline their offer, but I hope one of you will benefit! Good luck to all!

Sorry to hear about all the holds. The matching offer I received today has a response deadline of 4/28. Maybe there will be some movement right around then for those that were held.
