The c/o 2017 made a Facebook group to avoid the secret handshake/saying "TLS" out loud issue.

Lol I have no way of identifying you guys cause I saw the facebook invite way too late. I'm in a black cardigan thing and have a purple water bottle if for whatever reason you're checking TLS before this Segway tour!

Super duper early but I'm at el sapo. Had to exit the house I was crashing at and figured I could kill an hour drinking at the bar.
Black crotchet dress, blonde curly hair.
If you see a really rad record purse and need to be like "wow! That's a cool purse!"(happens everywhere), you found me.

Going to wait for the rest of the Krewe before I tuck into food. The cocktail menu here is very exciting

Re: Texas Class of 2018
indeed. Queso fries are an app there though
I would also highly recommend you guys get a drink at the Salty Sow (literally across the street) afterward. When you walk in just ask to get drinks outside. It's a pretty pricey (but really awesome) restaurant, and they have a fantastic, affordable happy hour.
ETA: I had the chalupa burger at Sapo last week. Would do it again. The one with blue cheese is money, too, but it could also be kind of overwhelming as there are a lot of different flavors competing (that's probably a fair criticism of all of their burgers, i suppose). If you're into bold flavors, though, you're probably going to have a good time.

Definitely second this.cannibal ox wrote:The c/o 2017 made a Facebook group to avoid the secret handshake/saying "TLS" out loud issue.
Despite what you may think, TLS association has some stigma.
We avoided this by making a Facebook group.
But we're friends with Attax so it's kind of a push.

This is why we should've just worn a shirt the first day that says "TLS - *username*" to school.AnonymousAlterEgoC wrote:Definitely second this.cannibal ox wrote:The c/o 2017 made a Facebook group to avoid the secret handshake/saying "TLS" out loud issue.

For those of us that could not make ASW, how was it?? Anything you learned that really sold UT to you, or vice versa? I'm hoping to make it out to Austin next weekend and do an individual visit, but I would love to hear what y'all thought about the weekend!

Last year they released employment #s at ASD, but I'm guessing that wasn't the case this year? Probably not, with the ABA waiting 10 months instead of 9 months from graduation to college data.

They didn't, but they apologized and specifically cited that as the reason. FWIW, they did say that they were mostly the same so far, just a few students/percent up for the wait.cannibal ox wrote:Last year they released employment #s at ASD, but I'm guessing that wasn't the case this year? I went to UT undergrad, but I was still surprised at how hard they were selling the whole "nicest student body in the T20, nay in America" line. From the personalities of most of my friends that have gone, I can confirm that it's not a smoke screen, but they really pounded that point in and listed the reasons why. Those reasons being: The Society Program (lasting prof/student mentors), the relatively friendly curve of the school (33% As and Big Law placement that backs that up), and the insularity of the Texas market (the combo of being the largest school in the state and being located at the capital means everybody who stays in TX will see everybody again for the next 50+ years, and 70%+ always stay).mpvarelasisley wrote:For those of us that could not make ASW, how was it?? I looked at two things differently after attending. 1) They pointed out that combining clerkship numbers with law firm numbers put them at over 50% law firm placement; hadn't considered that before. 2) The profs seemed like they were genuinely interested in connecting with students and helping them find jobs and clerkships; definitely had profs tell me to make sure to get back with them and literally shepherd me at the event to other people that would be more immediately helpful.

Does anyone have suggestions for a new poll now that ASD is over?

Re: Texas Class of 2018
hmm...some (admittedly bad) thoughts:ellewoods817 wrote:Does anyone have suggestions for a new poll now that ASD is over?
- how are you planning on getting to campus? (car, scooter, bus, bike, walk, run, etc)
- are you satisfied with your current $$ offer? (yes, no - I intend to negotiate, no - I negotiated to no avail, etc)
- what are you most looking forward to in ATX? (restaurants, bars, food trucks, parks, etc)
- what type of housing will you be living in? (apt, house - purchase, house - rent, parents, etc)
- where will you be living? (Hyde park, west campus, downtown, riverside, east side, etc)
sorry they are all super lame

Along the same lines as the post above mine, maybe a poll to see where UT is in terms of people's final choice.
Definitely attending, most likely attending, only if UT increases my scholarship, probably not, just using it as leverage against another school, not even sure if I'm going to law school this cycle.

Just one person's experience, but I can officially gove high marks to the Matching Program. Got offer today and committed. They were more generous than I was hoping they'd be. (TX resident).

Would love to hear details! I'm getting ready to submit my offers soon. How strong was your leverage? And congrats!!
