My sources tell me that a second one has appeared and just repeated a point a 1L already made. Clearly, they're not reading TLS during class like they should.

Someone point these idiots out to me tonight. I'll turn them away from Cornell.

They responded to me within half an hour (asking for the letters). I haven't received an actual adjustment yet.

I attached PDFs of the letters. A confirmation would've been nice.

Yeah I never received any response after I sent in the PDFs. Let us know when you hear back!

How small are the small bedrooms in Hughes? The price is really appealing unless its unlivable. And do you have a kitchen or is it just like UG with a cafeteria?

Do 1Ls usually stay in Ithaca over the summer or just go back home?

i have the same question. If you can't take out loans during the summer when you're not taking classes, how do you pay COA for your summer job (assuming as a 1L your summer job will be unpaid)?

This link is in the first post: http://living.sas.cornell.edu/live/wher ... hughes.cfm Click on "small bedroom."

From the same link:
(no in-suite kitchens or living rooms). Students may use the building's large communal kitchen

Some stay in Ithaca and work here, but most get a job outside of Ithaca wherever they want. They can go back to whatever market they're targeting, but some choose to live in random locations for a bit. If you're doing public interest / government, you get a $4K stipend. You don't get one if you do a judicial internship, so most people who do those are living at home or have extra money lying around.

Doing nothing over your 1L summer is pretty bad right? So for an international student, there's not much time to go home?

Edit: You lived in Hughes during 1L right? Did you use the kitchen much or did you just buy prepared meals? How much did you spend a month on food and other COL things besides rent while you were at Hughes?

Yes, that would be insane.
canadianbrother wrote:So for an international student, there's not much time to go home?

Depends on your job start and end dates, but probably not much time.

Yes. Used the kitchen very often. Probably $100/week.

Lavitz-what are your thoughts on Hughes? Have you been happy with your choice to live there? I thought I read somewhere that there is a "dining hall" in Hughes in addition to the communal kitchen? Do most of the students in Hughes have a meal plan of some sort? Appreciate any insight you can provide.

I liked it. Was a nice community. PM me if you have more specific questions about it.

There is a dining hall of sorts that connects Hughes to the law school. It's called Fork and Gavel cafe, and it serves breakfast and lunch during weekdays. Having a meal plan is completely unnecessary to buy stuff there there because you can just pay cash. I've never eaten there. My year, only about 10-15 students in Hughes had a meal plan, and they usually went to other dining halls in the area.

Very impressed with the 57.5% big law score. Are all of these jobs as associates in V250 firms? Or are they inflated somehow? Hoping a current student could answer from experience. Thanks!

Anyone have any insight for the prospects of someone wanting to work in southern cal (not LA)? The numbers all scream NYC but I'm assuming self selection to a decent extent and that people could go to other places?

Anyone who might have experience or has heard things about both:

Would it be better to live at Collegetown Terrace or Hughes for 1L?

I've been looking for prices for collegetown terrace but haven't been able to find any for comparison.

Cornell does really well in big law (#6). Go look at the 509 on the ABA website. To see some more breakdowns. Not sure how to get V250 numbers, but I don't think it's inflated. It's a robust NYC pipeline coming from up there in the arctic

Uhhh...take with a grain of salt as both downbeat and I are 0L's. You might want to check jobs data from previous years to see worst case scenarios.

All of the big law scores on LST are firms of over 100 attorneys. Also, V100 (NLJ250)

To those in this thread, would you mind clarifying something for me?

I've heard that all of Cornell's merit-aid decisions are linked to financial need. So, if you had, say, a 172/4.0, but no financial need, would Cornell not be able to provide full tuition scholarships?

Sorry for my ignorance.
