Don't switch. You'll thank me later. :)

Hastings Entry 1, 1st floor here. Tiny bedroom, but cool view in the common space. I was shooting for Story 102 or Ames 101, but both were already gone by 12:01. Grrrr...

Wait, with 100 residents to a single small kitchen... how/what/where do Hastings residents eat?

That was my issue with Hastings, too...

From the picture it looks like the Hastings kitchen is much larger than the kitchens in Gropius & North, though. It looks like there are several sets of appliances and a ton of burners across a few stoves. With a microwave and mini-fridge in your suite, it's probably pretty manageable as long as you're not cooking super elaborate meals every night. Get a crock pot.

Also I want to guess that a lot of people don't cook super regularly.

Hastings feels like the freshman undergrad dorm experience all over again; ideal for its proximity to class and other students, but not exactly conducive to adult life. I'm in my late twenties and at this point in the game don't really feel like fighting over fridge space or taking turns in the shower. Tough call.

What did you end up choosing, mwonka?

+1

Until you take an Comparative Law exam, at which point you'll be wishing like hell you had law school exams back.

Some housing questions, sorry if someone has already asked:

1. So most of the HUH housing these leases are full year leases right? How easy is it to sublet one of these over the summer unfurnished (are you just screwed out of 2-3 months rent if you don't end up finding a subletter)?

2. Is there any period where you can cancel a lease for the HUH apartments like with the dorms? I would like to try and sit on a waitlist for a dorm but if that means I can't do HUH it seems really risky if I end up not getting a dorm either.

3. Did anyone get that HUH email about the HLS block housing at Terry and 29 Garden? I'm a bit confused about this does that mean who ever has "view/select window #1" today gets to choose for these, but then on monday view select window #2-(last window) all choose at the same time? Seems like a strange system, not sure if I'm interpreting this correctly.

Thanks

1. HUH leases are for the full year. Lots of people do need rooms over the summer, but it'd be pretty hard to sublet unfurnished. I know I had to eat those costs last year. If you get a lease with an extra 3 months, though, it might be worth it to a) fly out and furnish the apartment early, or b) get someone in Cambridge to buy the furniture from someone who's moving out and switch it into your apartment.

2. I don't think so (?). I know that it's difficult to cancel a lease if you get a room in the law school block. Otherwise you have to give 30 days notice, pay some fees, and maybe be on the hook for extra rent.

3. I didn't get this e-mail, so I'm no help.

I'm pretty sure what the email from HUH means is that people whose View and Select windows are today get to choose from Terry Terrace and Garden Street apartments whose leases end June 1st. Whatever doesn't get picked today gets moved to the Currently Available list on the site on Monday, so you can pick them even if isn't your View and Select window yet. Once your View and Select window opens, you can pick from everything, not just the Currently Available list.

Probably not. Most professors are fine with RA's working remotely.

View window is today, and I have to say the amount of choices is somewhat overwhelming. Looking for a 1BR, there are ~350 to choose from.

Try narrowing it down by price and how far away you are willing to be from the law school?

Presumably this number is going to decrease a good amount due to a select window for some people today right?

You rigged your apartment to respond to Minecraft commands? That is amazing.
