Re: Harvard Law School Class of 2018
I'm probably going to live in a dorm 1L and move to an apartment with friends I make for later years. Currently deciding between ranking Gropius and North. It's a $400/month difference (which works out to a lot), but I'm a germophobe (not actually clinically) who has never had to share a bathroom, and supposedly the kitchens are crowded and hard to use in Gropius so it is turning out to be hard choice.

I will probably try to get Gropius if only to save money
Also, reminder that housing apps for HLS and HUH are both open now

Damn they do a good job matching up professors with admits. Just got an email from a professor whose research is basically my niche-ish work experience, but way way way cooler.
Also, I'm thinking Gropius 1L just to save whatever money I can, then off-campus with friends 2L and 3L. Can't say I'm excited to go back to communal kitchens and bathrooms, though.

Just got the same from a professor who has done exactly what I want to do professionally (academia aside because lol unicorn gig). Love it.leslieknope wrote:Damn they do a good job matching up professors with admits. I still can't login so I have a quick question: Is there an option for students to host me or should I just book my hotel now?

No option as far as I know. I'd find an airbnb though, hotels are ridiculous since its marathon weekend.DiniMae wrote:I still can't login so I have a quick question: Is there an option for students to host me or should I just book my hotel now?

In the same place right now... most North rooms are Standard Singles which are $1547 this year... it's double the small Gropius roomsleslieknope wrote:Damn they do a good job matching up professors with admits. eta: May think about opting for a North Small Single if I manage to get a super early timeslot? Not too hopeful though...

Fyi, 2BR/BA's at 29 Garden tend to run about $1300/month/person. At the North price, it'd be easier to get an actual apartment.blueberrycrumble wrote:In the same place right now... most North rooms are Standard Singles which are $1547 this year... it's double the small Gropius roomsleslieknope wrote:Damn they do a good job matching up professors with admits. Damn, I was only considering North if I could get a small but you made me realize that there are only 19 units. Will probably be Gropius for me too unless I get lucky I guess. I suppose returning students already had their registration windows and might be able to tell us what's already gone or almost gone? Are there any such students in this thread?blueberrycrumble wrote:In the same place right now... most North rooms are Standard Singles which are $1547 this year... it's double the small Gropius roomsleslieknope wrote:Damn they do a good job matching up professors with admits. Little peeved that everything costs an arm and a leg during the April ASW -- darn that marathon. Do they reimburse anything (flights, train)?

Just btw one more time: use AirBnB for April ASW. It's hella cheap.
Also, if anyone's looking for a place to crash for free, feel free to PM me.
I live like 15 mins from the school, but I'll also show you around. You'd be in our spare bedroom, on an air mattress. It's a coed residence, but again it would be free. If I don't respond to your PM its because I've already offered the room to someone else.

Thank you! I am to withdraw from all other schools except NU. Just curious about the result after a 5-month wait.HorseThief wrote:Scholarships have no effect on the need-based aid. A fair amount of people come in with schollys from other schools, so HLS expects you to make a hard decision.Veronica2015 wrote:Checking in! Admitted from yesterday's wave.
Question: Is there any room for negotiation once decision on need-based aid is made? Do scholarship offers from other schools have any bearing on those decisions? Is it safe to withdraw from other schools and vacate spots for people now? Sorry for throwing in a bunch of questions!
I would only withdraw from other schools if a) you absolutely know you won't attend there no matter what, or b) you'd be willing to pay sticker at HLS over going there. If you're feeling hesitant, it may be worth telling those other schools that you have H in your pocket. Some money might magically get freed up or something....

Definitely recommend attending the official welcome and faculty moot case.
If you are having a rough morning following the open bar, don't feel like you have to get up for the negotiation spotlight.
Also, definitely go out with the current students the first night, stay out late and have some fun.

Re: Harvard Law School Class of 2018
I was thinking about living in Hastings, potentially in a 2BR (if anyone would like to room, feel free to PM me )
So excited to meet everyone in a few weeks! I'm flying in on Friday night, so I'll have all morning Saturday to myself. Anyone interested in maybe meeting for lunch before the 2pm campus/housing tours?
