Re: Georgetown Law Class of 2018
ASW let me in today. No letter yet, but it seems safe enough to assume I've been admitted!

True - doesn't worry me none but I understand that it might bother others! I'll shut it down and just wait for the official Facebook page to come out. If anyone is planning on attending the January open house - and would like to meet up with other TLSers - let me know!smccgrey wrote:Careful with Facebook stuff guys - you're instantly outing yourself to TLS. Might be better to keep it as a PM thing?

FB allows for pretty fine-grained settings with respect to who can see what these days; you can block them from seeing your activity (or so I assume - haven't actually tried this)ChemEng1642 wrote:Yeah I'm not really sure what to do about this - not TLS I mean but to coworkers that I don't want to know that I'm going to law schoolsmccgrey wrote:Careful with Facebook stuff guys - you're instantly outing yourself to TLS. Oh the benefits of being in grad school, not having to worry about what boss/coworkers think about law school. But we should set up a TLS meet-up in January, do a bit of a meet and greet and put faces to usernames.navykev wrote:Understand that for sure!ChemEng1642 wrote:Yeah I'm not really sure what to do about this - not TLS I mean but to coworkers that I don't want to know that I'm going to law schoolsmccgrey wrote:Careful with Facebook stuff guys - you're instantly outing yourself to TLS. Checking in (although I haven't formally decided to go). I live in DC so if anyone has questions about the city, please let me know. I've lived in DC, MD, and VA and commuted everywhere possible for a variety of reasons.
I will be at the January ASW.
Hi NavyKev! I made it in without the retake!

So after a 5 minute scroll, I have to say that the best/most relevant post is "Eleven DC Lessons I Learned the Hard Way" (except the Avalon thing -- they're great).navykev wrote:Great page for those new to DC: http://soyourenewtodc.wordpress.com

There are a few new(er) apt buildings within a half-mile and some have student rates. I don't know how that compares to on campus housing, but my friend has a 1 BR for $1200.smccgrey wrote:Lucky for you, I just spent all afternoon browsing the ASWsupersplittysplitter wrote:are housing applications handled on a rolling basis? or are you guaranteed housing in Gewriz if you submit the application by the deadline? In mid-May, a lottery for first-year students will be conducted to assign apartment styles based on preference. If there are more applicants than spaces available, this lottery will also determine the order of the waiting list. To enter the lottery, the housing application and non-refundable $150 processing fee must be received in the Office of Residence Life by May 15, 2015. Once you have been assigned an apartment, the Office of Residence Life must receive your signed Occupancy Agreement by June 15, 2015. Cancellation after June 15th will result in a $400 fee to your Georgetown Law student account.
The housing application will be available in the spring.

I checked out just about every apartment building within a 5 minute walk to GULC when I was up there a few weeks ago. Some really nice places but pricey. Studios were priced between 1600 & 2000 and the 1BRs were 1900 to 2300. Really liked 77H and it is literally a 2 minute walk to the school.DiniMae wrote:

1 BR. DMV requires some properties to allow a certain percentage of leaseholders to rent at a reduced price if they can prove they have a financial need. I can ask if she had to show her taxes from the prior year, student status or what. Lots of FT students do that.smccgrey wrote:1Br or studio??DiniMae wrote:my friend has a 1 BR for $1200.
