Same here for the application, I didn't have to upload transcript either, maybe because I'm a foreign trained lawyer or so. For the accommodation, can anyone recommend a reasonable place in Albany? I'll be travelling from London and given the jet-lag and all, I plan to be in Albany perhaps at least a few days ahead. In terms of preparation, how long do you guys think it would take? I'll be free for full time prep from 20 May, would it be too tight? I'm so nervous.
Welcome, Joy.
Hope the link below works - it's from the BOLE site. Should direct you to a list of Albany accommodation. Still says Feb17, but the hotels etc still applicable.

I stayed at the ramada plazy in albany- they also had a shuttle service to the exam both days for an extra fee- and free breakfast in the mornings. Decent option!

Hey guys,

Just FYI, I am selling my brand new Themis MULTISTATE Exam Books on ebay if anyone is interested. I ended up never using these so I wanted to sell them to someone who is looking for a cheaper option than purchasing the entire Themis course. Here is a link if y'all are interested. Happy studying!

I posted this on the February 2017 hangout, but I am going to post it here for all the July 2017 peeps (Which I am one now also!)

If anyone is still hanging out on this thread... Quick question - Emanuel for MBE or Adaptibar and WHY??

A little background on me - I am currently barred in FL, I used Barbri course and Adpatibar to pass FL and I think it helped greatly. I used Adaptibar and Barbri books to take NY. I failed February 2017 with a 125 MBE (The worst I have ever done). I'm debating on purchasing Adaptibar again for $215 or just buying the Emanuel books. I think they will come out to about the same price. The things I liked about Adaptibar was the portability and ability to answer questions on the go and you didn't have to carry around a book. Also, as soon a you answered a questions you got the synopsis of the answer and the reasoning for the wrong answers. Also you can easily get your percentage of questions right and wrong and could focus on those areas, etc.

I haven't used Emanuel but I have heard wonderful things about it. Not sure if I should change it up this time around. To be honest the people that I have known that have used Emanuel have always scored higher on MBE (this is not scientific by any means). However, people that used Adaptibar still passed with good margins.

Thoughts and tips are greatly appreciated!

- CNK you are making me really consider Emanuel, so feel free to sit this one out if you are over typing out responses.

Make sure to exercise and get enough sleep, eat healthy and have a break with your friends to socialize every once in a while! Bar prep was honestly one of the best times of my life. I took 2.5 months off of work (I don't have that luxury now with taking a second bar). I had a morning routine, I was eating healthy, I was losing weight and I was learning a ton! It will probably be one of the last times in your life that you will be able to focus on just YOU and YOUR future. Enjoy it!

Great inspiration lolabear727, thanks! Keep inspiring us and can give us tips for studying ? I'm quite nervous as I'll be starting from 1 June after all my exams. Do you think I can prepare within this short period from 1 June to 25 July?

No problem! Yes, absolutely! I didn't graduate until late May in 2014. Generally the last week of May is when Barbri starts and then you have Memorial Day thrown in there, so you are really only missing out on 1 week if you don't start until June 1. It's not a big deal at all, IMO. Maybe try to start reading through the outlines though and answering some MBE questions.

Joy - fear not, I know people who didn't start until mid-end of June. They don't recommend it, and were stressed, but they passed. Your 1st June start date is fine.
I can't recall if you mentioned which bar prep course, if any, you were doing? Friends also agree with what lolabear said in that looking back, they kind of enjoyed the whole process, stressful as it was.

Hi! Would just like to ask who among you will be using laptops? I am still undecided and I would like to weigh the pros and cons. Thanks!

So I can't believe I'm actually posting this but here we go...

Kept pushing off registering for the UBE throughout April. Busy with work for a few weeks, a family issue, then for the past week and a half been absorbed in a paper and finals prep. Wrote myself a note last week to finally do it. Of course, I forgot and remembered this morning. I'm assuming the answer to my question is a big resounding NO, but I'm going to ask it...

Any chance they'll let me register if I call tomorrow? (Called today, no answer...)

I know, I'm an idiot. Be as cruel as you want.

Maybe find another state that is UBE that still has an open registration and then transfer your score...? I highly doubt they will fudge the sign up date for you.

Hey, really good question. I've been thinking about that as well. As stupid as it sounds, my brain doesn't seem to engage as well when I try and type an essay answer - I do better when I handwrite. Because I write slower then I type, it helps get my thoughts in a better order so answer in my head is clearer. Probably not explaining it well. Downside is that I won't be able to write as much, as typing quicker. Will be nice not to have to stress about laptop issues and uploading exam at the end. Someone did say to me laptop was really great for the MPT as they could copy and paste certain bits. Not sure what they meant, so someone else may have to chime in, but they were pretty adamant.

Haha, I mentioned that in an earlier post as well. Pleased it is not just me. I thought the lectures were good, just long outline confusing.

Sorry, three posts from me in a row.
Eek, re missing the deadline. They're pretty adamant all applications had to be in by 30th. Give it a try though - you may need to get past 'reception' who in my experience have been really unhelpful, although some folk have had better luck. They do give people longer to apply if they failed the Feb exam, so technically they are still open for applications....

Last post tonight .. promise.
At the risk of asking a stupid question, have you tried applying through the link on the BOLE homepage (at the bottom). May still be open.... they seem slow on updating things, hence my ask.

I'm using a laptop since I type a lot faster than I write and want to make sure I have plenty of time for the essays and performance tests.

I'm seconding this idea - I think you're out of luck for NY. :(
