How to establish waiver for First-Year Law Student Exam for CA Bar

Post by Legen..waitforit » Sat Dec 05, 2015 12:32 am

I go to an ABA-accredited school and think I waive out of this requirement. Do I have to submit or do anything or does the Bar waive the req. for me? Thanks for your help.

You do not have to do anything... Don't worry about the bar for the next couple of years... Cheers to being almost done with your first semester.

bump. Can I get confirmation on this answer? Do I need to ask my law school to submit anything to the Cal. Bar people? How do the Cal. Bar people know I've waived out of the requirement?

*Regularly enrolled students at ABA approved and California Accredited law schools that
successfully complete their first year of law study are exempt from the First-Year Law Students’
Examination (FYLSX) requirement, but students may elect to take the examination on their own
and some may take it to fulfill their school’s requirements.

super sorry for beating a dead horse but I guess my question is "how do the Cal. Bar people know I am exempt from the First-Year Law Student Exam" or (do I send in a transcript at some point? Do they find out when I take the Bar? Do ). More of a process question...

appreciate all the help

When you apply to take the bar, you will presumably fill out information in your application that includes your law school.
4. File an application, establish eligibility, take and pass the First-Year Law Students' Examination, or establish exemption from the examination.

As far as I know you don't send in a transcript. I know I didn't. When you apply to take the bar exam, your school does have to send proof that you graduated before you get a bar exam number. I suppose at that point there would be a problem if you didn't go to an ABA approved school.

BTW, I understand being worried and wanting answers. But if you're this worried about it you should just call the bar directly. I'm sure they have gotten this question before and can give you the assurances you really want.
