Hell to the no.
Unless you literally are paying someone to pack, move, unpack, and model your new place while you do nothing but study.

Nay. But (personal annecdote) a family friend did that and passed on his first try. Of course if it's at all possible wait to move until after the bar, but just saying it was possible for some people...

Wait, what? You don't need to be that busy w bar study until after the Fourth of July weekend. Certainly it isn't like you need to study 8 hours/day 7 days/wk (or even 5 days/wk) during June.

Re: Moving During Bar Prep
I'll be moving around the first week of June. It'll interrupt bar study for a couple of days, but there are weekends and stuff built into the study schedule anyway, and that's more than a month before the exam so there's plenty of time to get back on schedule. I figure that time-commitment-wise, it's not any worse than moving while working full-time, which I've done (the day before Christmas, no less). I'm having movers, and flying (not driving!) cross-country, so packing will just be interspersed with Barbri videos in the 2 weeks leading up to the move.
Of course, this is all theoretical until I actually do it and pass, so take it FWIW.

Part of this probably depends on how much stuff you have. There's a huge difference between moving out of a studio apartment and moving out of a full-on house. How much stuff you have is probably relevant here.

Re: Moving During Bar Prep
you can compensate for it, so i'm not worried about missing that time. i took a week off during bar study to do some interviews. the only thing that worries me is that moving-related stress might fuck with you, and also the chance that your laptop breaks during the move. but you'll be fine. i moved the day after the bar and i think moving during studying might actually be preferable.

Re: Moving During Bar Prep
I moved right after July 4; I think I didn't study for a full 7 or 8 days until I got settled in to my new place. I passed and didn't really miss the lost study time. It was definitely added stress and wouldn't recommend it unless there's some compelling need for it (for me, it was my SO's job), but it's absolutely doable.
To compensate for lost moving time, I started serious bar study literally the day after I took my last law school exam in May. That sucked, but it gave me an early enough start that taking a week off later wasn't a big deal. Most people I talked to didn't start studying seriously until early/mid June.

Re: Moving During Bar Prep
Wow! Thanks everyone for the responses. Let me add a few things:
-CA bar.
-Move is out of state, but it takes less than one day to drive from one place to the other.
-I do not have a whoooole lot of stuff. My plan is to pack for 30 mins-1 hour while I'm watching TV at night and decompressing from studying all the day.
-I plan to pay someone to put packed stuff in truck, drive it to other place, and unload them in new place.
-This means I would have to fly back to CA to take the bar, which is not entirely a big deal since I already have my hotel room booked. Although I could also drive since it's not all that far.
I think coming back for the bar worries me ever so slightly worries me. But other than that, I think the actual moving part can be done in a weekend. My spouse can do the unpacking.
Thoughts?

wouldn't do an out-of-state move while studying for the bar, but a local move would probably be doable.

Make sure you drive at least a few days before the bar and are settled into your hotel room. You don't want to be tired from the tirp back even if i'ts not too far as you sayzot1 wrote:Wow! Thanks everyone for the responses. Let me add a few things:

Ugh, I'm leaning towards not moving before the bar. I want the bar to be one and done, so I might just suck it up and deal with it after . . .

Is moving in late May a problem? I was planning on studying full time by June 1. Compensate by studying earlier in May, before I move?

Moving in late may should be fine. I went on vacation last week of May and didn't start studying until June.Outis Onoma wrote:Is moving in late May a problem? I was planning on studying full time by June 1. Compensate by studying earlier in May, before I move?

Re: Moving During Bar Prep
What date in July is the bar this year? To me, the prep is the most stressful part of moving, so a move in July would have been better than a move the first week in August. But if the bar is early enough this year that you'd get like a week after the bar to pack, then I'd wait.

Then yeah, I'd move July 1 over August 1.
