July 2015 California Bar Exam

Post by goldeneye » Sun Mar 01, 2015 4:17 pm

Registration opens Monday - anyone know anything about the test sites in the LA area? Also do we need to be at our computers at midnight or is this no big deal?

Yeah what's the deal? Last years thread had people registering at like 4am so I figured it had to be sometime early.

Does anyone know how strict the "San Diego residents only" policy is for the convention center? I really don't want to go to Ontario, but will take it over LA.

Got my confirmation about 5 minutes after submission. Does anyone know when we receive our confirmation of our testing center?

I believe in a few days it shows up on your "check admission status page" based on last years thread.

Unclear how strict but is it worth it to get bounced to the huge hell that is Ontario? I've heard that site is massive

That's advised I've heard since the last thing you want to do after a long day is try to find a cab or drive a while back to the hotel. They're insanely expensive though I'm finding

Why is there even a laptop fee?!

Did you guys choose your bar review course yet? I'm deciding between Barbri and Themis still.

went with BarBri - mainly through anecdotal evidence that the 3 people I know passed first time and did BarBri.

But these fees are outrageous - I should have known that $113 to get a username essentially was only the start

Laptop fee is absolutely ridiculous. Paying for software I already have..

I'm taking Themis. I'm a rep, but I would be taking it even if I wasn't. Can't justify barbri when all I have heard is great things about Themis and it's so much more affordable.

Medium strict, I guess? I called and spoked to an admission officer (0LOL all over again) and she said you can't register for San Diego w/o a San Diego area address. She hinted that I could change my address (in writing, of course) then submit, but by the time that's done my guess is San Diego would be full anyway.

I'm not stoked for Ontario, but, it's a much easier/shorter drive from where I'll be spending my summer than the LA sites, and I already have a hotel (cheaper than LA or Pasadena) that is just a few minutes walk.

As far as prep course I'm taking Kaplan, their online program seems pretty solid and that's what I was looking for as I won't be attending classes in person.

Is it San Diego residents only this year? Didn't look like it. Definitely my first choice.

Oh, for sure. Mine too. Running away with it.

BUT, It is definitely San Diego residents only. It was in bold red on the application, and I called the LA office of CalBar to confirm/ask if there was any latitude. I would take a screenshot for you but I already submitted. Maybe another poaster who hasn't submitted can screenshot to verify.

Now, could the admission officer have been mistaken? Maybe. Or, maybe you'll slip through the cracks. Or maybe they'll just give you your second choice. But, she did make it clear I would be bounced to my second choice without a San Diego address.

I've been using my parents' address in a San Diego suburb so I think I'll be ok, but it's disappointing that I'll have to worry at all. Thought they were over that this year

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
