2013 Barbri books for Feb 2015 NY State exam?

Postby Lord Quas » Tue Dec 09, 2014 9:44 pm

Hey anybody,

I know of people who passed the 2014 NY exam using 2013 Barbri books. Does anyone have insight on whether the 2013 books would be sufficient to pass the 2015 exam.

Thanks,

Quaz

One of my good law school buddies self-studied for NY July 2014 using Barbri's 2013 books. She passed. Of course, some points of the law changed between those periods, but she researched herself to find out what points those were and incorporated them into her study accordingly.

I think it should be fine for the most part. One the things that Barbri stressed was that SCOTUS cases take a few years to appear on the Bar exam. If you have the bar materials for 2013, then that means it was probably current up to 2012 or so. If you're going to use them now, I'd just make sure to cover any developments from 2012-2013, especially in CrimPro and ConLaw (First Amendment, Due Process, Equal protection), since those areas on the MBE are the most likely to see any change, perhaps Evidence.

I doubt any cases decided in 2014 will appear on the Bar.

One important thing to know is that they're adding a Civ Pro section to the MBE starting this February. If you go with old books, be sure to find some source of guidance for that portion of the test as well.
