Approximately what score's needed on the "real" MBE to pass in IL? I'm trying to gauge how close I am at this point. TIA :)

Edit-->Still trying to figure out what's a "Pass" on the essays? 3/5? 4/5?

I usually go 6+ per day, maybe a little lighter on weekends, but usually no less than 4 on any given day. I started June 3 and I've gotten to 66%, and I learn much better through practice than I do through reading to memorize, so I am trying to do as many of the review/practice type tasks as I can, with a bit less emphasis on the "Review Evidence notes/lectures/handout" type tasks.

Yeah, I'm on to solely practice stuff now, and I am doing several MBE PQ's in the mornings, and then 3-4 practice essays in the afternoons, which is nowhere near 12 hours a day. Just wondering if that was reasonable or what.

This is similar to what I do. I do one set of the multi-topic mbe set every morning, followed by 3-4 essays. I'm usually finished with this at around 2 or 3 in the afternoon. I take a break and pick up w/ flash cards from 5-9 pm. I'm not trying to gun or anything, I just can't memorize shit if I don't write it out, so the flashcards replace the "review X outline" for me.

Amen.

Also, guys and gals, I'm finding writing down the explanation for the wrong answers on the Mixed MBEs on flash cards to be extremely helpful instead of making flashcards for each and everything (colossal waste of time for stuff you already know and have committed to memory!). For example, I got 3 Torts questions wrong on Mixed MBE 1 and come to find out they ALL had to do with defamation. I guess I don't know shit about defamation for some reason.

Edit: I hope to convert to purely practice by Saturday. I STILL have commercial paper and secured transactions to get through, and I KNOW they will both show up on the MEE. Cringe.

That's because defamation has backwards-ass rules depending on who the plaintiff is and what the subject of the alleged defaming speech or writing was.

If you average 3's on IL essays: probably a 120 on the MBE to pass. Which is like 55% correct.

This. I asked my advisor this question and that's what he said as well.

I wouldn't totally count on it. We might get fucked with a Fed Tex, a personal property and a surityship question and get a bunch of 1s.

I'm aiming for 150 on the MBE so we can score like 1s and 2s and still pass.

Themis hasn't given us predictions of what subjects might be on it have they?

So wait, average 3's on the Illinois-specific essays? Or is a 3 average overall on ALL the essays OK? Like everyone I'm sure, I feel MUCH better about the MEEs than the Illinois essays

Last page here https://www.ilbaradmissions.org/Percent ... lentCharts the average score was between 2.33 and 3.4. From there I match it to the percentile chart that had scaled writing and the 50th percentile was like 146. 264 minus 146 = 118 you need on the MBE. The average score appears to be a bit below 3 (2.9ish). So it might even be lower. But you'd be BARELY passing.

If you can get a 150 on the MBE you can be the bottom 1% on essays and still pass.

I seriously wasn't even going to worry about Fed Tax AT ALL. Themis only gave us a 40-page outline to "read" and no lectures or anything else to practice with it. So with that, I'm skipping it entirely to concentrate on smaller stuff that is more likely to show up (i,e., Comm Paper/Secured Trans/Equity). I took Fed Tax in law school and it made me want to kill myself. That semester was miserable, and I count my lucky stars everyday that I took it pass/fail. I have enough working broad backround knowledge that I could probably bullshit a fed tax issue if for some reason it gets thrown in an MEE, but I HIGHLY doubt it'll show up. It's such a technical subject and I fucking hate anything related to math (that includes trying to figure out amounts for comparative negligence jurisdictions). Almost all of my friends who took the bar last summer and this past February skipped over it as well. If you're ahead in the course it won't hurt to look at it, but for people, like me, who are behind in the course, I rather not freak myself out over Tax.

This made me feel like 3,000 times better. I haven't yet sat down to figure out what the bare minimum is to pass so thanks for doing the math :D

We're scheduled to take a simulated essay/MPT/state multiple choice exam on July 17 (at least NY kids are). Is Themis going to arrange for classrooms like they did for the MBE?

NY takers: anyone got any experience with Yotel? I know the rooms are small, but I don't care. 3-night stay at $169 a night just a 5-minute walk from the Javits has me pretty convinced.

One of the numerous hotel review sites might be a much better bet for you in this case.

How did you pull off getting into NYC as an out-of-state taker? Or are those spots are no longer saved for residents?

Went to NYU; when I registered for the bar, I lived in NYC but am living back home during bar study.

Check Tripadvisor, I use them when I travel. Pretty accurate.

Pushaw's MBE Analysis for Contracts, PM question 24... he keeps saying "pianist", which is always a funny word, but is way funnier on 2x speed.

It's junior high time here in my living room, folks.
