This poor thread is on life support.

Patrick, or anyone else, do you know when we will receive our section numbers and class schedules? Do we have to wait till orientation?
Sorry if this question has already been answered.

I thought it went great. The finalists were pretty sharp. They recognized all the admitted students sitting in the back - *awkward*. The judges invited everyone to stay and chatted for a while. Then there was a tour followed by a lunch with some students and professors. I guess it was the first group event and I liked it more than my other visits.

I think it is sometime in June when they put them together, but I don't know when we get the information.

Section assignments will come out the early- to mid-August. Even when they do come out, don't buy books until they're finalized. They occasionally move people around sections, as section members drop out last-minute.

I'm starting to think I will try and go Air Force JAG. It's hard to argue with ~60k (base) starting salary, full benefits, 30 paid vacation days a year, 10 3-day weekends a year, 20k bonus at 4 years, 40k bonus and 6 years, and a kick ass pension.

Anyone else considering JAG?

Might want to put something more civil-service-oriented in your PS. I'll spare you the speech, but you've got to want to serve, no matter what the benefits; and the SJA will be able to tell when you interview.

That said, I was picked up by the AF GLP in February, so if you've got any questions, feel free to fire away or PM.

Football tickets went on sell for those of you who went to OU for undergrad- graduated or graduating this May.

What's the football ticket situation for law students?

It depends if they are current students at OU or will be new to the school this fall.

Category 1 - currently enrolled full time and will be enrolled full time in the fall that purchase tickets from April 26 through May 14.
Category 2 - new students enrolled that purchase tickets August 16-20; if demand exceeds supply there is a lottery
Category 3 - currently enrolled full time and will be enrolled full time in the fall that purchase tickets after May 14

Eligibility for Texas tickets starts with Category 1 and usually sells out there.

Law students are in the general admission student section.

I am considering JAG as well. I am definitely going to do some sort of civil service, and the JAG corps seems a great choice, specifically AF. I have a couple of friends who are officers and have loved their time with the AF. I am close to the age limit though, but should be able to sneak in as long as nothing strange happens during law school. Patrick, what is the GLP? Sorry, not familiar with the terminology.

I am sorry, I have reread this three times, what does this mean? No 1l's are likely to get tickets if they didn't graduate from OU? Is that the gist? Kinda sucks.

Now I see my mistake. Texas tickets. Didn't want those anyway.

If you didn't go to OU this year, yes, there is a chance you might not get tickets. I have a sister who was a freshman this year, and she didn't get tickets because demand was higher than supply. (Non-OU graduated students are grouped with the freshman.) I got them as a freshman, but I don't remember if there was a lottery then. Given the disappointing year last season, there might be a chance that some students don't buy tickets. However, some buy tickets only to sell them. They go on your bursur, so it makes it easier to sell them for beer money, ect. Selling out a 85k seat stadium happens quickly here- there are thousands of non-students on a waiting list for season tickets every year, and many of them have been on the list for years. Note: Some people put a clause in their will about season tickets- welcome to Oklahoma!

Update: I just called the OU Ticket Office and they are saying there will be a lottery again this fall because of demand.

GLP=Graduate Law Program. Basically a 2 year ROTC program for law students, with field training and unpaid internships at an AF base during your summers. Guaranteed to pick up a commission at the O-3 level as a JAG officer upon passing the bar.

Fantastic thread on JAG (all branches) if you haven't already read it.

It's pretty long (about 45 pages), but filled with some great information, links to JAG blogs, statistics, etc. I highly recommend anyone considering JAG read through it in its entirety.

I did make that sound bad... But I'm prior service Army and Air Force enlisted, with 12 months in Afghanistan. Multiple generations deep with AF service... And I do want to do public service. But I'd be lying if I said the benefits had little or no influence.

I am going to apply for GLP in Feb, and I will most definitely hit you up for advice. I want to make sure the SJA recommends me. Did you interview at Tinker? That's where I was born.

And just like that, I sound like an ass. :)

To hijack the thread for a minute: First, thanks for your service. Second, thanks for the congrats. I interviewed at Tinker, but Col. Slagle, the SJA there is moving to a new post soon. Not sure who the new SJA is going to be. More than happy to answer any GLP-specific questions, but if I can get in with no prior service, you should have no problem getting picked up.

oh okay, yeah, i knew about that program, and the thread. thanks! My thought is that with my family, the time costs dedicated to the ROTC stuff in the summer could make life really difficult, so I am going to try the other route. I do see the advantages though.

as for the tickets and the whole lottery situation, i had to enter the lottery my freshman year and i got tickets. i would say the majority of people get tickets from the lottery but there are the people who don't. however, students tickets are very easy to come by in norman. i had a friend forget to buy his tickets one year but he still made it to every game by buying a student ticket every week. there are hundreds of student tickets for sale every game so there is no need to worry about not being able to get one. although if you did not go to OU, then you are screwed when it comes to the texass game, but that trip is still amazing even if you don't go to the game

Who knew all it took was a little football and military talk to get this thread going (kinda). Makes me more excited about OU.

Patrick, thanks for the thanks... same to you. I will PM you with questions so I don't turn this into a GLP thread.

Since law related discussions dont keep this thread active, I'll continue the football talk. Please tell me most of ya'll are Dallas Cowboys fans.

I would say most of my friends are only casual NFL fans. Most of them, like tkolax said, fans of whatever team recently drafted a solid OU player, but hey you've got to have a way to pass Sundays, right?

Since I got OU season tickets again, I imagine Saturdays will be spent tailgating. Sundays, I see my NFL watching spiraling at least 80%. I'm going to try not to think about that and enjoy these next few months...

Cowboys fan all my life, Mavs fan too, but I am certainly starting to like the Thunder. I hope they take it to the Lakers. I will be an OU fan, but even though I went to lowly Baylor, i will be a Baylor Bear fan first and always, even when we lose to OU in football. What can I say, my loyalty runs deep. As for every other Saturday than that, I will cheer on the Sooners.

I'm thinking about it, but still unsure. 2 1/2 hour drive is a little long for a one day visit.
