wow, I keep trying to breath some life into this thread, let's see, how 'bout: What kind of law is everyone interested in practicing?

I am still not certain, but I would most like to be in the public realm, criminal would be very interesting, I think. Either side, DA/Public defender, just not sure yet.

I have no clue what type of law I want to practice. I'm hoping my 1L will help with that decision. I'm even open to academia if that door were to open up for me.

On a different topic, I'm still waiting to here back from UH. I enjoyed OU much more in my visits to both school. The thing is since I'm a veteran I would go to UH for free... If I get accepted there it will be a tough choice for me. Go to the school I enjoyed more for 19k/ year or deal with UH for three years.

Any thoughts?

Why does UH give tuition assistance to veterans, but OU doesn't? If I were you, I would say just that to Susan, and see what she suggests.

It's not just UH. It is because of the Hazelwood act in TX. It is a fee waiver for 150 credit hours at any public institution for veterans that were TX residents at the time of their enlistment.

I spoke to Susan about it and she basically said that OU can't compete with that type of state mandated waiver. I want to use it as a negotiating tool but I haven't been accepted to UH yet.

My background is political so public stuff is what I am interested in. I think criminal would definitely be an option I consider. We'll have to see how I do in crim law and moot court, I guess. I also am interested in the legislative area.

Got ya, man, that is a tough one, I mean I don't even know if they would see that as equal to a scholarship. Have you searched for other veteran based grants available? Maybe there is one that applies to any school.

very cool. I have some interest in the legislative side as well. I used to be a Page at the OK State Senate and always enjoyed walking those halls! :)

Hey guys, I've decided not to attend OU Law in the fall but I did go there for my undergrad so if y'all have any questions about Norman or anything like that I'd be happy to help!

Cool. I worked at the House for a couple years and realized the value of a legal degree since the lawyers made 3 times as much as I did.

What were you doing? I was just a student Page, it was fun, but I was in Jr. high.

Random question since there are fights today:

Anyone else a UFC fan? I don't want to have to watch the fights in Norman by myself for three years.

If I end up at OU, I'd love to watch the fights.

UFC held a fight night in OKC last fall. I heard it went well. Maybe they'll find their way back to Oklahoma in the next three years.

So what's next? I assume at some point those who have sent in deposits will be receiving info on enrollment, schedules, etc. I'm sure it will probably be a while, but has anyone seen anything like that yet?

Also, when (if at all) is everyone planning on moving to Norman? Anyone planning on living in Moore/OKC/elsewhere? I personally am looking for something within a 5 minute drive of campus if possible.

Friendly advice: live as close to the law school as possible. Not a good idea to live in OKC and commute, unless you already own a house there, etc.

As for enrollment confirmation, schedules, and all that, you'll get information later (but much later, like July or August, IIRC). Call Susan Wilson if you have specific questions, but they do things last minute. You'll find out section assignments right before classes start in August. Don't buy books just yet, as professors are sometimes substituted and switched from section to section.

Alrighty, so I got the moot court/reception invitation last night from Susan. Anyone else plan on putting off 3.5 to 4 hours in the middle of the day?

I was thinking about driving up, but my wife ened up having a conflict on Sat. so it wasn't worth the drive to not make a weekend out of it.

Yeah. I'm sure Susan's been busy dealing with, what, 150 of us new admits, but I haven't gotten an e-mail or call back in a week so I may just put it off too.

When you say + in-state you mean the waiver?

On his LSN profile he listed his scholly info, and he had multiplied it over the 3 years. I was just trying to see how much money was getting put back into the pool.
