True, but getting in to Tax can be tough. Of course, the main thing Tax lawyers want is not higher taxes, but more complicated taxes.

Bring on the VAT!

When that actually becomes a real field, that'd be pretty sweet, though.
It actually is. Someone needs to do the legal work for launching satellites, etc. Fun to joke about though.

Unfortunately, that's just trademark infringement. Alas, if only there was a porno law...

Admin, litigation, IP, etc.

That said my niche field is Indian law. As Indian tribes grow in power and political influence, knowing the ins and outs of the Federal laws concerning Indians will be lucrative.

Alot of these issues are not typically handled by the mythical "biglaw" firms. Talk to your parents/grandparents. See who did their will. It was probably somebody from a smaller firm or a solo guy. Alot of criminal defense and family law are the same way.

The doom and gloom reflects the downturn of biglaw....with the big firms barely hiring, you wind up with lots of competition for the smaller gigs.

In the end...this darkness will lift...

I'm gonna go with IP. Maybe not the best, but it'll be solid. If IP goes down the pooper, its not going to matter what other fields are doing well since it'll be time to start stocking up on canned goods.

water law. but don't get into it unless you're passionate about water rights, too much at sake to represent the bad guy.

what do you think the best type of law to specialize in would be?
Define "best." Are you one of those that is seeking a law degree so you can get filthy rich and satiate your material desires? Are you going to law school to use your knowledge and your degree as an instrument of social justice? Or are you somewhere in between?

The answer depends on who you are and what you want out of life.
