Double posting just in case some of the current students don't read the accepted thread...

How much do y'all pay for rent + utilities per month? House or apartment?

Does about $750/per month (rent + utilities) seem like a lot for a room+private bathroom in a 3bed/3bath house right next to the law school? I thought it sounded somewhat reasonable, but my mom thinks it sounds expensive which I guess it might be since I can find a one bedroom apartment for cheaper...hmm...thoughts?

Do any current students know anything about the Cazabella apartments? I read some bad reviews about the complex, but I also read somewhere that a lot of law students live there, so is it really as bad as the reviews say? It is my first choice for apartments if I don't live in a house.

I am in the process of trying to plan what school and path to take. I am a current UG student at UF and have been hearing horror stories of job placement coming out of UF law. Is it really that bad? I am an accounting student and plan to take a lot of tax/estate classes. Are those who concentrate in areas such as these faring any better? Trying to determine if its worth it to pass up a job at the big 4 making 55k for law school when there is a good chance I could graduate with no job and in debt...

What are your thoughts?

I live in a 1/1 and pay $550 (plus utilities). My first impression is that $750/ a month for a 3/3 would be a good deal, but not totally sure.

I have some friends at Cazabella and have been there a couple of times. The complex looks very nice, and it is walking distance from UF law. I haven't heard any complaints from the people who live there, and I'm inclined to think that it is a good place to move into.

Do you know anyone who has participated in the Prosecution Clinic? What were their experiences?

Also, how often do 3Ls find employment with the DA? (If you know this.)

I've been accepted to UF Law and strongly considering attending. Can a current student shed some insight on what hiring is looking like coming out of UF? Also, are 2L's able to get SA positions?

There are a solid number of SA positions. From all I've heard (and I've done my research), if you can't crack OCI there are plenty of opportunities available if you put in the work. I can testify that the alumni base is fantastic and willing to help out.

Thanks! Would you say there is a grade/rank cutoff for SA positions?...And can one expect Florida BigLaw from UF? Or have prospects outside of the state?

2Ls and 3Ls could correct me, but top quarter should get you comfortably into OCIs. Florida big law is possible, but I wouldn't go in banking on it. The market is in shambles, and you'll be competing with a lot of T14 grads coming back home. Still, it's possible. Are you in-state?

Yeah, I am in-state. I received 9k a year from UF and since I most likely will end up in FL and have ties here, I'm considering UF. Just wondering what the job prospects are like for a UF grad.

Have a personality and a little drive and you'll be in great shape. I think it's an excellent option given your position.

Thanks! I've been trying to get some info on UF to make the right decision on what school to attend. This helps a lot.

Jessuf wrote:If you want to gain residency status in Florida, immediately switch to a Florida driver's license when you move. If you have a vehicle, register it in Florida. Get a voter's registration card.

They have more information on their website about reclassification, but I am forced to go through this process at UF every year, for some reason. They ask that I show proof (2 separate documents) that I established residency at least 12 months prior to the start of the fall term. They accept things like FL driver's license, FL voter ID card, paystubs showing you worked full time in Florida for 12 months, vehicle registration, etc.
What about dependents? The stuff online makes it seem like it would be really difficult. I'm not sure if I can go to UF if I won't be able to get instate tuition after the first year.

If anyone is looking for someone to live with then let me know. I'm out of state (Colorado) so I don't know Gainesville very well. I would just rather live with other people than in a studio.
