Because UIUC sucks. Duh. Seriously- I wasn't about to start a thread for every shitty school (ITE) that people are all joyously exited to pay money to attend. People can read this thread and get the general gist of the fact that if UIUC isn't worth attending short of a free ride ITE, then obviously schools like Iowa of OSU aren't either. (Even a free ride w/o a living stipend means taking out around $50K in debt just to cover cost of living, insurance, etc. and taking out much more then that right now without even knowing if you will be mopping floors at a denny's when you graduate isn't exactly a good plan.)

NayBoer wrote:Also, the whole "I'm bumping this thread so I can demean the choices other people make" is pretty silly.

As a random, anonymous person on the Internet, you have no credibility or reputation with me; so I can't take your word for it that UIUC is (a) a poor investment or (b) worse than it used to be. If you want people to believe you, cite some objective evidence. If you already have ITT or elsewhere on TLS, please point me in the right direction.

It sounds like you have already made up your decision that going to a t25 and taking out probably $90K+ in loans total is a good idea. Not sure why I would even bother to try to tell you it isn't. But if you simply uncover your ears you would easily notice that it is much, much poorer decision then it used to be (do you seriously think that 1/3 of UIUC made it into biglaw this year like they did in the past?). Here's a thread worth reading: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=99590. I think the last couple posts are right on the money.

Why do you people argue so much? If you could find some way to make money off of that, that would be ideal.

This thread is 3 years old and hasn't been posted in for well over two years. Im guessing everyone arguing ITT in 2009 is reformed and no longer argues.

I don't know if it is funny or sad to read this after we know now what was happening with them completely fabricating stats of (some) admits.

I'm going with sad because there had to be grads who went there thinking it was better than it actually was. Those grads could have gone to better or at least different schools.

Remember when people liked Pless? That was before the scandal of the fabrication of data for 6 out of 7 years. I don't understand why people don't take this kind of fraud more seriously. He didn't go to jail or anything. But he seriously mislead applicants.

If you don't know what I'm talking about:

Paul Pless, the college's admissions dean for the past seven years, resigned Friday. He had been on leave since early September after the university's ethics office was tipped off Aug. 26 that erroneous information had been reported about the Class of 2014, a group the college touted as "the most academically distinguished" in the school's history, with a median LSAT score of 168 that boosted the school into a "rarefied level." The class' actual median LSAT score was 163.

The Music City Fiasco and the ensuing Decade+ of Fail are the result of favoring Rob Johnson over Doug Flutie.

Even though this thread is two years old, this is especially salient today.

They also boast a 46.7% "real" employment rating at 9 months (less the 8 school-funded positions). And while 8 school-funded jobs doesn't sound like much (just 4.2% of the class) compared with Virginia's 64 and GW's 80, it's more than schools 21-38 combined.
