Henderson is in charge of the Legal prof classes, and yes some veryyyyy ugly things were said in reference to him by some people becasue of the class the first year it was around (which is why he did not teach this last year)

I think it was mainly just quite a few students were worried they were gonna get hit by the curve through unfair grading and didn't buy into the idea that legal prof class is a new great idea.

that being said I think he is doing a great joba nd the class is a great, anytime your introduce something new, people may freak out a bit.

That's why I choose to live close to the Law School. I want to be able to just walk there.
You can park at the lot across the street for free if you stay past 9 PM. You can park on the street and move your car every 2 hours. Or you can get a parking spot within a few blocks from the school for between $30-$50 a month. I know a number of people who do all 3. The bus is also pretty good out here, and hits up most popular living areas very frequently.

I heard it was more than first year jitters, and there were major issues with the program. To the point that that is the reason the curve is so high from last year, and other curves are unavailable. There seemed to be some major deficiencies in the program, and Henderson was not willing to listen to any criticism.

Steele was brought in to improve the program, which he definitely did, but I have heard some consistently terrible things about the other LP professors. IMHO that class still needs a lot of work to constitute being worth 4 credit hours. I think it teaches a large bit of necessary information and helps build your team working abilities, but I think that class deserves a pass/fail grade more than LRW, which I hated with a passion.

Madeira is a "her". Her profile seems interesting, looks like she's done quite a few things career wise. I'm leaning towards making her my first choice. Spoon, thanks for asking around. Let us know what you hear.

Where is it that you can purchase a spot a couple of blocks away for the $30-$50 dollars a month??? Is there a link that you might be able to direct me to?

We were on a normal curve for legal prof last year thought right?

and yeah Steele was a solid move by them. imo he should teach 2 sections and have those be the only 2 sections of legal prof. He's also really nice and took my prac group to lunch at FInch's and covered it all haha and has been really helpful with transfer OCI advice.

if anyone is interested you can check out historic grade distribution on the torts profs you can see them at http://gradedistribution.registrar.indiana.edu/

We weren't on a hard curve, but (edit) one class came close. I think the idea is to make some "holistic" type of grading system, which doesn't necessarily work out well for everyone when the teachers have different grading criteria. Which leads me to the following:

My understanding is the 2011's were given a small bump up as an apology. I believe Henderson did not quite follow that "holistic" grading as much as advertised, and the final ended up being the only factor in overall grade regardless of effort put in on the other half of the class.

Lets see, if I read this correctly... Steele curved out at a very generous 3.455 and 3.454, Robel at a very nice 3.455, and Weng at 3.369. For general reference, Weng ended up with 54 grades (and one unfortunate last minute drop out who isn't included, but was, and I assume still is, a pretty cool person) and came in with 20 A and A-'s. Steele had 55 and 57 students, with 26 and 27 A's and A-'s, respectively. Robel had 49 students and 22 A and A-'s. This did not lead to a difference in bottom end grading (comparatively you may expect less A and A-'s in order to curb the low end), with Steele having 3 C+'s and 2 B-'s (out of 112 grades), Robel with only 2 B-'s, and Weng with 1 C+ and 2 B-'s.

Ghey curved out his class of 2011's at 3.5.

NBD, but still, just looking at that list, you would have been at a disadvantage being randomly assigned to Weng's class. Percentage wise, there are significantly less A and A-'s and more B- and C+'s.

Plus you would miss out on Steele's awesomeness. There is no question that he is the man.

Regardless of curve, if 3 classes are grading out significantly better than you, in a 4 credit hour course, and considering the small differences in GPA that relate to sizable chunks in the ranking, one class got a shot to the balls.

(My last edit... and proof I need something else to do) To help quantify the difference between the GPA's, the raw overall GPA deficiency of Weng's GPA v. Steele's GPA is 4.644. That means that the C+ could get bumped up to a B-(.4), both B-'s to a B (.6), 4 B's to B+'s (1.2), 5 B+'s to A-'s (2.0), and one A- to an A (.3), and STILL have a lower GPA than every other section. That's 13 grades that in any of the other classes would be one slot higher.

Here is more of a "day-to-day" type of question. What do you guys do for lunch during the school day? Is there a normal place that a lot of people will go?

Depends on what kind of person you are. There's a little cafeteria downstairs where I lot of the people ate lunches they brought from home. This is especially true of the married people. There's also quite a few restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the law school and on nearby Kirkwood. Finding something quick to eat shouldn't be a problem at all...

I spent a lot of time at Qdoba, Dagwoods and Noodles & Co.

This. Noodles is great.

Also, a lot of people (myself included) live close enough to the school to walk home for lunch.

Most the places right around the school are pretty solid. It's really hard to go wrong. Kilroys is pretty popular on $2 Tuesday and $3 Thursday, and is extremely popular for cheap drinks after finals. I actually don't think you can go wrong with anything in walking distance, and everything is very reasonably priced.

Just got off the phone with Student Affairs:

Textbook program is down. There is no posted textbook list on the website. They don't know when either of these will be fixed, but we should be expecting a mass e-mail today. I don't believe that mass e-mail will include a textbook list, but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

WTH? Not everyone has the $$ to buy full-price textbooks from the bookstore the day before classes start. And even if you do have the money, who wants to? IIRC, this issue seems to be a recurring one.

Welll personally I loved my group, and i think it helped tons looking back on it.

as far as getting outlines, you can either hit up 2l's on here, which im willing to give mine out, or there is an outline bank as well, or just network haha.

They are small books, one is the bluebook which is definitely necessary for summer jobs, legal practice, Law review W/O, etc. and I think from what i remember they were actually a bit helpful for legal writing. I hardly ever used them lol, but I mean its not gonna be that much money in comparison to casebooks.

haha that new edition blue book adding up the expense. To be fair though, its a year long class so look at it as 125 this semester and125 next. You use the same books thank god
