Wow, okay. So to be able to transfer there, you would have to be at the very top of the class. I guess you would rather pay sticker at Berkeley than see what the very top of the class at IU would get you as far as placement?

Another reason I'd never consider transferring. I think the only reason to would be location concerns like Kings has.

I love IU and it would be tough giving up scholly and class rank, and possible journal and all that. I came here with the attitude that i'm fine ending up in the midwest, but if I could get back to CA that would be awesome. And I think this would be my best chance to get back to CA.

I also do have some person reasons for getting back to CA so that also comes into play as well.

Okay. I guess what I was getting at is that if you are top of the class at IU, are you concerned that this rank wouldn't be able to carry you to CA for job prospects?

Very good question, I dont know if i wanna risk it to be honest. It might carry over, but it will certainly be easier at Berkeley, simply because they will have way more CA firms at OCI.

Its certainly possible depending on what market you are looking for, and what type of law.


Think about it in these terms. At IU there are really very few if any CA firms at OCI. My chances at getting a big law job would be pretty limited, even with a top 5% in the class.

Now if I go to Berkeley, suddenly I have 100 CA firms at OCI, and I still get to say I was top 5% at IU. Its kind of taking advantage of the huge OCI but still getting the gpa from here.

No brainer, dude. You've gotta do it if you can get it.

Im still holding out hope that I can get in to Stanford, I think I need to move up a tiny bit this semester.

Hoffmann's exam was godly. I wish more tests had a definitions section and an analysis of a blogger's sex debate. LOL.

Haha, I hated the definition part it reminded me too much of high school history tests that were just fill in the blank terms. And the closed book part was brutal too.

The Policy Rape/Consent question was actually the only part of the test I did well, and it was the part that mattered the least.

I think for crim i spent 90% of the semester studying the absolute wrong way and hopefully with Con Law Ive learned my lesson this semester.

As confused as I am about the broader scope of con law right now, and as much as I felt comfortable with Hoffmann, it's mind-blowing for me to think that odds still very much favor me getting a better grade out of Williams than out of Hoffmann.

0Ls: Practice Group Advisors are the leaders of the small groups you're assigned to in your 1L year, but I'm assuming the admissions office has already told you all about that.

Any other 0L's doing Summer Start?

I thought really hard about summer start and am leaning towards not doing it. While it seems like a great way to get acclimated, I'm not sure I want to put myself in a position where I have only 4 weeks to to learn and do well in a class that is not easy during a full semester. It just seems you might be gambling with a grade unneccesarily. I don't see much upside in taking the class early to risk a bad grade that you might get just because it's moving at too fast a pace.

And that IU would "settle" somewhere between where it was before last year and where it was this year. TBF, I was predicting 29 or 30.

The very bottom of p. 12 has it.

I'd go check it out. You'll either be in on the rankings early or you'll be part of the biggest flame in TLS history.

Absolutely shocked that Illinois actually rose. Was not expecting that.

While holding top 25 would have been amazing, 27 is a nice spot to be in still. I think next years class will see a slight raise. THis is the first year they've had a chance to adjust admissions really.

UIUC raised their lsat 75th I believe, whereas we basically kept it the same. Im not surprised GW jumped us, they were horrified after last years drop.

IU will edge back up next year once the money is applied...

Edit: Exactly what I thought... IU's raw score didn't change. The other schools around it just leap frogged them.

Because of the corruption that was reported there in their admissions system. I thought it'd hurt them more.

I don't read the TLS forums...

And so much for my "we should move up" theory. So I guess we were exactly the same as the year before according to their grading criteria. But 4 other schools gamed it for improvement?

But I guess this won't change anything when I tell undergrads that I go to a top 10 law school. I might bump it up to 5 when at Kilroys.

Mid-20's is mid-20's. Not much difference took place here.

Yeah, it was more fun to say "I go to a top 25 school," but I think that's all that really got lost here. Here's to having the ability to honestly say that again in a year.

Some people are too caught up in thinking that top 25 means something really. In the end nothing really changed.
