Re: University of Texas 1L Taking Questions
Can any current students comment on the international internship? I notice on the website there a couple listed with several prestigious organizations. I'm sure the competition is stiff but any advice or comments would be great. How about the financial aid for these programs?
Secondly, how financially feasible are the semester long study abroad programs? Anyone doing one of them?

Graglia's the only one I had. No idea what his secret is. Only thing I know is definitely do his previous exams -- my year, he repeated an entire question verbatim from a few years before. Those who had done it, obviously, had an advantage.PrincetonBound wrote:Civ Pro- Dickerson

Mullenix - don't buy study aids and don't study for that class. you'll likely end up doing better.hookem7 wrote:Civil - Mullenix

Petrie - LOL
The other two I don't really know that well. I've heard good things about Chesney.

I keep hearing about UT's strict GPA floor. Does anyone know about this? Thanks

I got in off the waitlist underneath the floor with a 3.4 (non-URM) so it's not impossible. I imagine the decrease in applications helped and will continue to help people.GirlStop wrote:I keep hearing about UT's strict GPA floor. Does anyone know about this? Thanks

Okay, but what is the GPA floor? 3.5? 3.6?...amoricaorbust wrote:I got in off the waitlist underneath the floor with a 3.4 (non-URM) so it's not impossible. I believe it is a 3.5. The LSN graph will show it pretty well if you want to go double check.GirlStop wrote:Okay, but what is the GPA floor? 3.5? 3.6?...amoricaorbust wrote:I got in off the waitlist underneath the floor with a 3.4 (non-URM) so it's not impossible. Mullenix is great, but her exam has zero retest value (40 questions, 100% mult. choice, A students get ~19 right, B students get ~16 right). I still recommend you study, but half as hard as for your other classes.
Petrie is a G -- total ladies man. When you get to brief writing, IMO he prefers policy args to technical/textual args. Just pay attention to his quirks (e.g., endless love of transition words) and you'll do well.

Re: University of Texas 1L Taking Questions
Yeah, if Mullenix runs the same kind of civ pro class as f0b's and my 1L year, it will be ridiculous. She likes to put on a show, so don't get rattled by anything she does. Prepare hard when it's your turn and don't back down when she challenges you on everything. (She's really nice in real life, though.) Her exam was bafflingly bad and seemed to have little to do with what we learned. All MC, and the curve was insanely tight.f0bolous wrote:Mullenix - don't buy study aids and don't study for that class. you'll likely end up doing better.hookem7 wrote:Civil - Mullenix

Had Wellborn for evidence; his exam, by contrast, was very straightforward and bar-like. Didn't have him for torts, though. An interesting dude, to say the least. I've also heard Chesney's good.

Re: University of Texas 1L Taking Questions
Dix: completely uncensored & hilarious, but probably only an average lecturer. His class is heavily Texas Penal Code based -- so familiarize yourself with the relevant portions of the code early (and as with any statute, pay particular attention to the early sections of the code that define terms and outline the code's underlying policies.Magnifique1908 wrote:Same....anyone? Westbrook: UT superstar prof., but better known for his upper level courses. This will be only his 2nd time teaching Contracts, so you will at most have one practice exam to use. His class is heavily UCC based, so, as with Dix, know the relevant portions. Westbrook cold calls and will grill you on terminology and procedural history, so his class is one for which you should really brief the cases each reading. Overall he comes off strict, but he's really a warm guy -- my best experience among my 1L profs.

Re: University of Texas 1L Taking Questions
I thought his crim pro class was great (makes you think and the class was entertaining). But he definitely is a lot better at asking questions (to everything) than actually answering them. To those in his class: Go buy Understanding Crim Law by Dressler.JazzOne wrote:I took crim pro with Dix, and this comment was spot on.Cade McNown wrote:Dix: completely uncensored & hilarious, but probably only an average lecturer.

Dix is great at tearing the Supreme Court a new one (which is not really useful to anyone not on the Supreme Court) and telling witty anecdotes. But I didn't really learn anything in crim pro. It actually would have been a much better class if he had cold-called people and asked them questions instead of asking himself questions.

Re: University of Texas 1L Taking Questions
My SO had Kadens for Ks a couple years ago. She's known as a pretty terrifying, old-school prof. But don't worry about the old exams just yet; she'll probably provide them to your class. For what it's worth, she's apparently a nice, albeit awkward, person in real life.ncterp wrote:Northwestern 1L here, hoping to get some help from you guys. One of our sections has two professors that have taught at Texas: Rodriguez for Property and Kadens for Contracts. Any chance that there are prior exams for these professors available, or any advice from those who have had these professors? Your help is much appreciated!
Sorry, no idea about Rodriguez.
