This was the best class I took in law school, hands down.

What do 1L's tend to do for Thanksgiving weekend? I'm looking at booking flights out of Richmond now and I was wondering if most people stay on campus/come back to campus early Friday to get back to work.

I worked through Thanksgiving and the ROI wasn't enough to have made missing the recharge time worth it. Plenty of people went home. So at least, based on my experience, don't not go home.

I went out of town, and so did most of my friends. I got back to Cville Saturday morning. I don't really remember but I think some of my friends may have come back on Sunday. I brought books with me though so I could study over the holidays.

I'll go against the grain here and say I found using the Thanksgiving Break to study was super helpful. Very few distractions in town and it's right about the time you need to start focusing on exams. I am certain this is the minority viewpoint, though.

However, understand that it's really going to depend on where you are in your outlines, etc., and it's obviously an individual decision to make. You might need the recharge of taking time off and visiting family or you might feel you need the time too focus on finals.

If I were you, I'd try to hold off on making a decision. I understand that has implications in flight costs, but it might be worth it if you find yourself in October and still feeling a little behind the curve.

I'm with zuckercorn. I also stayed on campus - we had all our classes canceled that week so I basically had two weeks to get ready for finals and it was really nice. Most of first semester I felt like I had no idea what I was doing, so having the extra time to figure out how to outline was really valuable.

Because so much was canceled I probably could have gone home, but for my own peace of mind I wanted to stay on campus because I knew I wouldn't be able to get that much done at home and I would probably be stressed out knowing how much studying was hanging over my head. Staying on campus allowed me to get a lot done and focus and not be super annoying to my family members. Planning a trip home is also tough because you might not know what's going to be canceled until it's pretty close to the time you need to go home and you've already bought your tickets.

It's definitely an individual decision, but I just wanted to share the factors that went into it for me and also Charlottesville when no one is around is really great for studying - lots of open tables in coffee shops.

I never went home for Thanksgiving b/c home was on the West Coast and expense didn't justify the limited time.

That said, I never studies over the break either.

I studied, but make sure you do a Friendsgiving or something too, and treat it as a somewhat low key long weekend. All work and no play and all that.

Don't buy the understanding series; they are always on reserve.

If you can get it used for $5 delivered from the Amazon marketplace, it might very well be worth buying, at least for those who're not in easy walking distance to the library.

I also have some supplements: Con Law (Chemerinsky), Understanding Property Law, and Corporations (E & E). If these are old editions (and I think they might be one edition back), I'll just give them for free.

Also, I have the books for Jurisprudence w/Schauer. I will sell these at a good price.

PM me if interested in any of these books. Thanks.

I heard that she retired to take care of a family member in Boston(?). No idea if that's true - just the rumor I heard.

I had Harmon for a different class and didn't care for her. From what I gather having spoken to others, she's one of those types that people either love or hate. I also heard that she tries to be intimidating to 1Ls, particularly at the front end of the semester.

I had Barzun for Torts and enjoyed him well enough. He's nice and does a decent job at teaching you the material. He's a bit all over the place with his lectures, though.

I did not have him for CivPro, but Mitchell has great reviews. All my friends who had him for CivPro or Evidence loved him. I'm taking Evidence with him this fall. Be prepared to laugh - A LOT.
