Re: UVA Law Students Taking Questions
Take the MPRE whenever you feel like it. I took it without taking PR. I read the Barbri outline (did not take the Barbri course), did a practice test, and passed with flying colors. I know people who put in the same amount or less time and passed. It's not a big deal.
Same goes with PR. Take it whenever, just don't take it with Cohen unless you play to go to class and are actually gunning for grades. Balnave is probably the best bet. I've never even heard of Stone. New this year? Also, the short course, if they offer it, got good reviews last year. I think you actually have to go to class, but it's only for two weeks and then you write a 10 page paper instead of taking an exam.

lol, just lol at not taking Balnave for PR. Don't buy the textbook, don't go to class, read through the rulebook the evening before the exam, sit for the exam, thumb through the rulebook as needed, write a 6 page exam in 2-3 hours and get your B+.

I took Hylton for PR and its pretty much the same as Balnave I think. Don't go to class, read the rules (they are available online, so don't even buy them), and get your credits.
As far as the MPRE, it is easy and does not require much work, but I definitely think I benefited from having some vague familiarity with the rules from PR. It doesn't hurt to take it close to taking PR.

Who do people recommend taking trial ad with in the spring? Choices are Bouton, Edwards, Hudson, Kavanaugh, Morrison, Simpson, or Wood. Thanks!

I really liked Wood. Don't know anything about the others, though.

Most, but not all, trial ad classes get good reviews. Because of the small class sizes, reading the online course reviews on lawweb is probably going to get you a lot more information that you can gather here.

I think I just put random classes with lots of spots knowing I'll drop them and figure things out later. That's future shadowofjazz's problem.Br3v wrote:North wrote:First Offense wrote:North wrote:3Ls took all the spots in both of the classes I wanted to take

Re: UVA Law Students Taking Questions
This may be in the SRO documentation, but how soon can we drop the classes we got? Before the real lottery? I got classes for the fall I don't think I'll be taking but will likely interfere with the real lottery.Br3v wrote:shadowofjazz wrote:I think I just put random classes with lots of spots knowing I'll drop them and figure things out later. Re: UVA Law Students Taking Questions
you can drop your first round stuff as you try to add second round stuff
i think there's another 3L lawreg lottery starting tomorrow for non-required classes. i hoped this would just be in SIS which, y'know, works just goddamn fine, but SIS says enrollment doesn't open in there until 9/5. which absolutely can't be right, but does mean SIS won't be ready for enrollment tomorrow, when they've previously suggested our round two starts.

Re: UVA Law Students Taking Questions
Will we ever have the chance to add grad required classes (for this fall or spring) again, assuming there is room in them or becomes room in them?
How? I assume "drop/add," I used that in college but know nothing about it at law school.

yeah-normal process. so if there are openings in the lottery round two, you can add grad required classes through that (fall only). if not presumably SIS will open at some point and you'll be able to run enrollment requests through SIS for both enrollment and wait lists for those classes. same thing will happen when the regular enrollment process for the spring runs.

I ended up getting the Consumer Law Clinic in the lottery, which I added at like position #9 and without much thought.
Has anybody ever taken it or heard anything about it?

It's a new clinic, so no one will have taken it. It's run in conjunction with a local attorney in private practice and attorneys from the Legal Aid Justice Center. If you like working on real cases with real clients, LAJC is great.
The workload can very a lot amongst clinics though, and there's usually a very strong B+ curve. I found my clinic time to be rewarding.

The health insurance through the school is very expensive. Does anybody know if catastrophic health insurance qualifies as meeting the schools insurance requirement? I am assuming it does but want to make sure, does anybody have this level of insurance?
Thanks. Look forward to being in C-ville in a couple weeks!!

I don't, but if you're under 26 and unmarried it would probably be cheaper to jump on your parents' plan. Just something to think about.Gooner91 wrote:The health insurance through the school is very expensive.
