Thanks. I love the research and writing aspects (so far, realizing I only have gotten short easy work in comparison to actual attorneys). Glad that I don't have to be a complete natural at oral advocacy to succeed

Are lexis nexis/west law things that we have to pay for or do we get an account by being a law student?

anyone here have good experience with a mover? I need someone on two different days, just for like 20 minutes one time, and maybe a couple hours the next. Craigslist has about 5,000 ads.

How crucial is it to have your own printer at home? I'll be living in Ivy, so I figure I can print my things at the school. We get free printing, correct?

You get a ton of free printing, and it carries over from semester to semester. I'm currently trying to use up the thousand pages or so I had left at graduation.

Shit, give some to me. You get $25 every semester, I always had to add extra

You can get by without a printer. You have to pay after you've used up your free allowance each semester.

Printing from Westlaw/Lexis is free to their printers (located in the library) so you can print cases for free. You can print those from home and they'll be bundled up ready for you to pick up when you next go in, assuming it's daytime and during the school week.

Thanks. I may get one at some point, but not now. 95% of what I'll be printing will be school related, and I assume most of the time I'll be at the library printing anyway. So worst case I can walk ten minutes to go pick it up at the library (I'll be in Ivy).

Rising 2L here. Does anyone have advice on which professor is best for PR? Balnave and Cohen are teaching it in the fall, and Balnave and Hylton are teaching it in the spring.

I remember hearing that some professors are B+ heavy and others are more disparate in grade distribution. Is this correct?

Not Cohen. This is all you need to know.

What if I go to Cohen's class and do the reading?

Does everybody say his exam is incredibly hard because it is PR and they treat it like PR and don't put in any work?

Or is it just that hard?

Because I want to take PR this semester, but the only other choice besides Cohen is at 8:30. I would be willing to put in the effort and study hard for PR if it let me avoid an 8:30 class. But I am also not confident about objectively hard tests because I think I do poorly on them.

Why are his exams difficult? Is there more of an opportunity for A-/A's?

And what Balnave and Hylton?

No, it's not a situation where people aren't putting in the work re: Cohen. His exams, not just PR, are objectively absurd. Definitely my hardest LS exam.

how difficult is it to get into corporations with geis? I know it will be very popular and I'm assuming it'll fill up, but if I get waitlisted and hang on, would I most likely get in? That's what happened in Collins' evidence last semester.

Also, I'd like to take great professors, and Jeffries is among the most highly spoken of, does that make a course like federal courts worthwhile if I wouldn't otherwise take it? I'm definitely not law review material, would I have to fight just to get a B?

Don't agree with the Cohen thing. Never thought his exams were any "harder" than anyone else's. If anything, I found them easier than lots of other classes, simply because he releases 5 or so years of past exams with full model answers, and the patterns/issues in the exams tend to repeat year to year.

Cohen's curve is high-risk/high-reward, though. He'll give out Cs and C+s in PR, but also multiple A+s usually. As long as you keep up and study the past model answers carefully, you'll be fine.

Two important issues:

Cohen's PR exam was the hardest exam I took in law school, but it's hard for everyone who takes it. If you do the reading, study hard for the exam, and do two or three of his practice exams, and participate in his class, you can do well. Most people don't want to put that much work into PR, though.

Second, Wine Warehouse is amazing. The only wine store I know of that keeps its temperature at red wine sotrage temperatures. They also always have free tastings going on, and their prices are good.

I hired a Craigslist mover last year, but I doubt I still have the contact info and I forget what I paid, maybe $80/hr for two guys? He had a minimum of 2 hrs though, which seems reasonable to me so I think it's unlikely you'll be able to hire someone for 20 minutes. However, people will probably throw up moving posts in the facebook group so just offer pizza or beer and I'm sure some of your classmates will be able to help if you just need to move a couch in or whatever.

Cohen's exams are very difficult, but for everyone, remember it's a curve. He releases the previous 5 years of exams, which are incredibly similar from year to year, and outlines exactly the way in which he gives points and grades. His exams may be difficult, but I found it incredibly easy to beat the curve simply by looking at his old exams and giving exactly what he wanted.

Law school isn't rocket science.

This. There are a lot of bros who would be thankful for the free beer. Even if you're moving before the big rush, I know a lot of folks that are spending the summer in C'ville.
