Top Law Schools

This is my first time moving to a different state and nobody in my fam has ever left either. Will I have to re-register my car in VA, get a VA Driver's license, and get different insurance? Anything else you can think of? Probably an embarrassing question, but y'all are the best.

I just got my loan package and want to know if I really need to accept all of this (I may or may not get a scholarship in April if there are any left).

My electricity bill has ranged from $75 to $120 so far. Water is covered in your rent. Internet is technically free as well, but it sucks ass so you'll probably want to get high speed internet. Cable and internet package will probably be around $100 per month. One thing to keep in mind regarding your loans is that you may end up in a job that doesn't pay your 1L summer, so you might need your loans to stretch the whole year rather than just the school year.

In case anyone is looking, I have a summer sublet available starting from about May 16 - Mid August. It is 2 Bed/2Bath, fully furnished, and rent is TBD (though I plan on giving a really good deal and will pay utilities myself). The location is arden place (which was just built, and I am the first person to live in my apartment).

I can definitely make do without cable (I have access to Netflix + Hulu + HBOGo), but high speed internet is a must (for those 3 especially!).

On a completely separate note: some of the TLS UVA accepted students are organizing a (small) get together for the Friday night of ASW. If anyone is interested in stopping by to say hello, feel free to post in the Class of 2016 Forum. We would definitely appreciate any tips/advice/bar recommendations.

There is a lot of activities early on. You'll meet people

I'm from out of state. Parents and girlfriend still in FL and didn't know a single person before heading up to ASW last year. I didn't find the transition to be bad at all though. If you come from a big undergrad, see if there are any others from your school at UVA. It provides an instant connection.

It's also important to remember though that about 60% of school is from out of state, so most people are coming in without knowing anyone. You'll make friends quickly, especially within your section.

The way my roommates (who I hadn't met before moving in) and I met everyone and quickly got over the "alone" feeling was actually pretty simple - we threw a kegger.

If I were stuck with that I'd throw away my laptop and just do everything on my iPhone.

So how much would it be for a good high speed internet/cable package? I saw $100/month floated out there earlier, that seem about right? Just trying to do some early budgeting.

Some Comparative Math
Net savings by bundling:

All three years: $430 ($4,718.16 - $4,318.16)
Two years: $287.20 ($2,985.96 - $2,698.76)
One year: $113.88 ($1,193.76 - $ 1,079.88)

This is assuming at least a one year contract at those rates (though its probably two) and a third year off contract on the second year rates. Also assuming the year 2-3 rates won't change too much. You save more money in the long haul since the rates go up significantly for the individual services. If you can live without TV though, the internet only option costs just under half of the bundle for three years. Food for thought.

If I'm using my laptop in lieu of TV, I might just do that (or even more)! The 20MBps option at Century Link is marginally more expensive than Comcast's 20MBps first year offer ($539.94 v. $509.88), but if I do CenturyLink for one year and then Comcast for the following two, it comes out to a total cost of $1,805.22 (a net savings of $245.46 over the only Comcast Option). I'm just repeating what I've heard, but apparently there was no e-mail because power is out all over main grounds. I know a lot of people are without power still. Sucks. But maybe no class tomorrow?!

Just got an email from a school official saying that we don't get emails for class cancelation. Which is weird, because I could've sworn we got an email from Dean Ballenger or someone else last semester when the tropical storm canceled classes...
