Letter. Despite the name, you'll never receive anything in law school on "legal-size" (8.5" X 14") paper.

Will we receive so many handouts as to justify a filing cabinet?

Not really, although there are some classes that are handout-heavy (though not according to some neat pattern, so I can't tell you which ones). For most classes, you'll have the syllabus and perhaps a case or two that isn't included in your casebook but on which the prof wants to focus. Just a decent-sized three-ring binder or a Pendaflex folder would probably suffice for all of law school. OTOH, you should probably also consider employment materials (e.g., resumes) and stuff like bills/important documents, so maybe a filing cabinet makes sense as a single centralized repository.

I have never been given a single handout in any class other than a syllabus.

edit: real class, not LRW

Question: Do we have access to HeinOnline or do we have to be at the school to use it?

You can access it if you set up a proxy account. Check here for instructions:

ETA: actually, I guess you can access it in a variety of ways. UVaAnywhere seems like a legit choice, too.

I've used Heidi's Perfect Fit with good results. There is a bit of a language barrier, but they won't make you defend how you want your suit to fit. That said, if you don't know how a suit should fit, Google it first, because they will only be marginally helpful.

Do any 3Ls have insights on International Trade Law? The course evaluations are good, but they all seemed surprised the final was closed book; just wondering if it was brutal.

I had three suits tailored at Martin's Tailoring on Barracks Road, and was very happy with the result. It's in that little shopping strip behind the tavern.

I got mine done up at Men's Wearhouse on 29. I'm pretty unsophisticated when it comes to suits, but I felt like they did a good job.

Does anyone want to comment on this article? http://abovethelaw.com/2011/08/uva-laws ... mpressive/

It seems like ATL loves to bash UVA especially hard. Still, if anyone has anything to say about this (even anecdotal) it would be nice to hear.

Read the 2011 UVA OGI thread. Basically, that's the c/o 2011. No shit there's 1/4 unemployed, that's pretty common for T10 schools. If anybody is surprised by that, they haven't done their homework.

There's also some nice deriding of the people who forward every little thing to ATL. I'll never understand people who do that. Kevin Donovan's line about "relax online, preserve the Virginia mystique" was so horribly pulled out of context. People were worried because they didn't get as many preselects in NY as they felt entitled to. He told everybody to calm down, because the alternates hadn't been assigned and the lottery hadn't run either. 70% of people have at least 15 interviews. CSO is doing a great job.

Check out this forum.

Tl;wr version: 1. As the VLW piece notes, no one knows how many of the people on the mailing list were there because they had neglected to let OCS know that they had gotten jobs. This could be an especially big deal given that people who don't forward their school email to their personal accounts might no longer be checking those accounts and might therefore not know to take themselves off the list.

2. We don't have any similar data from other schools, so we have no idea the significance of the (possible) unemployment figure. Is it 15% at Penn? Forty percent at Duke? Who the heck knows if this is a good number or a bad number?

3. ATL's snarky comment on Dean Donovan's advice that folks chill the @#$% out on the interwebs was both uncalled for and ignorant. As usual, K-Dizzle was spot on. No one had "struck out." People were freaking out without even having any idea of how many total interviews they would have.

Thanks guys! I ended up going to Martins and they seemed really friendly and promised a quick turnaround in time for interviews.

Yes

I'm going to revive this thought given how shitty it must be to be in the CSO and see the manner in which the school keeps making the news. IMO we should give a gift to the whole of the CSO, though.

edit: I'm dumb, still have a week to go before sections get posted, 1Ls.

But for future reference, here's a repost of the section breakdown:

5ky wrote:For the soon-to-be 1Ls: I think this should be a list of the schedules/professors for the different sections. The relative consensus among older students seemed to be that sections A, C, and L had the best lineups of professors.

You're right, I'm dumb. Since interviewing starts next week it just feels like that's when school starts up. edited.

That was my next worry - did I have the start date wrong? Given I don't seem to be close to having my work finished I was having a moment of panic!
