i think it depends on where you are coming from. if you're walking from Ivy or that direction, I think people tend to like the ones in Slaughter. If you drive, maybe one of the WB ones or hunton-williams hall is always a decent pick.

Personally, I don't care for the second floor slaughter ones, but if you have a lot of classes up there they aren't bad.

Not worth the extra money. Back your shit up and do your best to avoid accidentally destroying your MBP around finals and you should be fine. I think that is the general consensus, but someone can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks, I appreciate the response. How much more are we talking about approximately? And this is basically insurance in case something bad happens to your laptop, correct? I agree that a lot of times insurance is a scam, but if it's not that much, I might consider it.

The difference between insurance with a macbook not bought from the law school, and one that is happens to be a hundred dollars.

For me the value of a loaner laptop being available is worth it......for you it may not be.

It varies. I've had 4 of my 8 classes in Slaughter second floor, but I think some people have had only one or two and I'd imagine some more.

If I remember correctly, I didn't get mine till like orientation-ish meaning you can wait. I don't know if it could have been done earlier though.

Locker location really isn't something to stress about honestly. You can get from any point in the law school to any under point in under 5 minutes.

Which reminds me, we returning students supposed to renew their lockers or something? I think I forgot to do that.

I think the stated deadline was around May 13.
I think you had until May 25 or something, but they said they'd be clearing out lockers, donating books, etc. after that point. If you had, say, all of your 1L casebooks in your locker (which I do, but I renewed), you'd be screwed out of a bunch of money. If it was empty, no biggie; you'll just end up with a different locker next year.

To get a locker: LawWeb-->Student Services-->Administrative Services-->Locker Rental/Renewal

Yeah, I found the email and renewed; thanks guys. I didn't have anything in my locker, I don't think, so no harm done.

I wonder how many people will take advantage of the option to rent lockers over the summer.

I guess it depends on how much you'd spend otherwise. I have a friend who works for Apple and the difference in my case was $300.

I think I could roll with the laptop I've got now just fine, but I think I'm going to get the bundle solely for the loaner. $1400 is an expensive insurance policy, but on the extremely off chance I needed it, I would be really glad I had it.

Back when the earth was still young, I calculated that you could comfortably buy 2 Lenovo laptops (of the same style) with similar and/or better stats than the law school bundles for less than the cost of a law school bundle. I always thought it would be funny for your insurance to be a brand new laptop in a box, but I don't think anybody pulled the trigger.

If you're going for a mac it's not nearly as egregious.

This thought actually crossed my mind as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you buy an outside laptop, don't you have to give it to IT to install the requisite UVA software or some bs like that? And they charge a fairly high rate for the 45 min - hour that they work on it? Something like 80 dollars total.

Somebody told me that, and it helped push me towards just buying the Mac bundle and not worrying about that mess, since the price difference was relatively close anyway.

I could be completely wrong, though.

If you already have a laptop, why not just get the new one, set it up then reformat the old one and keep it as your spare for insurance?

You can still get an extended warranty, you just don't need the extra expense of having a loaner available or same day on-site service.
