mostly the shirts. the fact that it was reflecting poorly on the school instead of the economy. the fact that something was done by current students for prospective students to make the latter feel uncomfortable. i dunno, maybe it's just my midwestern sensibilities that didn't appreciate that sort of thing, especially when i already know it's true. i do the research myself, i know things aren't great right now for job prospects, i don't have to be blindsided with it in this way.

yeah, they could have really driven their point home by choosing the OOS figures instead. coulda rounded up and said 50k. maybe this explains why they don't have jobs?

Like I said above. Total debt would make more of a point. $48,000. Meh. $226,000 whoa

Any 3L wearing this shirt to try to send a message to 0Ls has to know that the class of 2014 is going to have much better job prospects than the class of 2011. Which makes what they're doing all the more bizarre.

That remark is slightly incongruous with this one:
Anyway, it's a dead horse, let's leave it be.

Ok I meant let's stop discussing it.

But I can still make fun of you. Not being serious at all. I can go add a smiley if you want.

I mean, when the economy was doing well and UVA was posting up 80% in biglaw numbers, nobody said that the school was taking credit for something that was due to the economy. I'm not clear on why, with the economic downturn, placement stats are any less attributable to the school. Could other T14 students sport similar shirts? Most definitely.

Also, have you ever broken into a stranger's house on Christmas Eve, waited until the kids come downstairs the next morning, then run around drunk screaming that you killed Santa Claus? That's how those guys in the shirts felt.

But the school WAS taking credit when the economy was better. They were saying, hey, look at our 80% biglaw placement, better than Georgetown's 65% placement (??? i dunno) so come here over going there. That's how they got so many people to apply/want to go. If the school had nothing to do with placement for a good job, I'd go to the school where I got a full scholarship, but that's not the case. Now that the economy tanked, ALL schools are suffering, but here are the UVA people in their shirts, getting all the attention, making it seem (to the uneducated) that they are the only student body suffering.

I also said I was upset by the fact that 3Ls were trying to make 0Ls uncomfortable, and that was my main point.

As far as this, in all fairness, you have no idea because you weren't the guys in the shirts. This is also under the assumption that the shirt wearers felt some heavy moral obligation to inform incoming 1Ls of the shitstorm ahead. They could have just been entitled assholes, as Borhas said in another thread (or was it the reverse you were saying? meh, not sure, doesn't really matter)

How about you stop posting in the UVA 2L taking questions. Last I checked: (1) You're not a UVA 2L and (2) You're not a 0L. SO, you can stay the heck out.

^this. UVA's administrators are incredibly hard working and truly care about their students. But, even a hardworking administration can't fix a bad economy.

Well there are other schools that can help minimize debt. We don't know where the balance of debt vs. opportunity should be ITE.

Really? It's pretty clear from the context that Cavalier was referring to law school in general.

Because you made decision trees, ran a cost benefit analysis, and like the collegiate atmosphere.
