LMAO!!! So I just checked out the journal tryout info from last year and.....the whole thing is only over the course of one weekend!!! Seriously?! No wonder an alum told me she picked it up and then said " Hell no" and just turned it back in! Do you have to do the essay component or can you get away with just doing the bluebooking component since that's what most of the non LR journals care about? If you have to do both there has to be an incredible amount of people who give up. I mean eve for the uber type A gunners that fill the school that's intense. You basically won't be able to sleep (and barely eat) for that weekend if you do the writing component properly.

lol journal tryouts. From my understanding you have to do both, although since most secondary journals care mainly about the bluebooking, the bulk of your time should be focused there if you're not aiming for Law Review. Have fun!

Yeah......LRW. You've got to be kidding me. I can't believe that they think we know how to bluebook from that class. This semester is going to be hell.

I think I fear 2L's and 3L's just because they know how to take exams better. I feel like even with much less effort, they are more equipped to handle these classes than 1L's.

I'd say the exam taking skills and effort are probably close to a wash and I would just take large classes. I think large classes ensure the most normal distributions.

Is it common knowledge which students graded on LR and which students wrote on?

I took Evidence and Criminal Investigation as my electives. I did not do worse in either compared to my 1L courses.

Going off this question, the 15 students who get on from the write-on/grade combo; is there any sort of estimate on which is weighed more heavily? Is it primarily journal comp. performance or like 50-50?

Oops. Massive reading comprehension failure by me.

This is what I get for reading too much enviromental law in one day.

The secret to the bluebook is to look up every rule, for every citation, every time. Never assume you know the rule because you probably don't. E.g., consider the rules regarding ellipses and quotations(R.5) or the rules for abbreviating cases (R10.something) or the rules for supra, id and hereinafter (R4).

Serious question here:

Let's say, hypothetically speaking of course, I went to UVA UG and have several ex boyfriends attending UVA Law next year.

Exactly how often will I have to spend time with these people (more than a casual passing, which I can deal with)?

lol, i like how appropriate this question is for your username.

in my experience, the answer is no except at the margins. it's usually pretty easy to figure out which several students had the top grades based on OGI success. likewise, some write-ons share the fact that they wrote on or had previously told people their GPA or whatever (although i only know of one person like that off the top of my head). although maybe other people know more than me and i'm just oblivious (definitely possible, haha)?

it also might vary class-to-class. i think that Class of '11 LR members have been more willing to share their GPAs amongst themselves than our class is.

It's usually going to be between 30-45 minutes per day, depending on your schedule, where your locker is, and whether or not you're an in-state resident.

You won't really ever have to spend time with anyone who isn't (a) in your section, (b) your peer adviser or Dillard, or (c) on your journal (and even then probably not).

I am so confused about what classes to take. UGH!

Suggestions?
I am more torn- I do not want to take a four credit course because I think they are way too intensive. Also, any good classes with a strong B+ curve?

Take Abraham's Insurance class. It's a solid, 3-credit class with a very strong B+ curve...so B+ heavy that apparently he was talking about moral hazard yesterday and someone asked if his grading scheme was an example, haha.

I actually heard about this- it was pretty ballsy. Sadly, that conflicts with a class that I have that is required.

:) alright, fingers crossed for not in my section.

Sorry if I sound childish, I can be civil and all, but I'm more than ready to move on!

Yea, if one or more end up in your section, then you're out of luck. Also, if you and the exes are all really social, in addition to seeing them around school, you'll certainly see them at bar review and other social events, but you don't have to hang out in a small group or anything...

Or until OGI and you start seeing the same names for the same firms.

Hmm, I can't imagine why you would have multiple ex boyfriends. Grow the frick up. Seriously.

Not sure if the second part is sarcastic or not, but one in particular hurt pretty badly and I'd rather not have it in my face every day, that's all.

We fear you because you're still trying. I did markedly better second semester 1L year.

It's not common knowledge but write-ons tend to be pretty open with that fact.

They are the ones pop and locking down the hall during OGI.
