Would you be able to provide me more information in how the first amendment clinic is percieved within the school?
and if there is any overlap between students taking the FA clinic and being involved in the appellate advocacy clinic?

Are you asking whether it's a "prestigious" clinic among students? I don't think anyone really cares what classes you take.

This, and most people only do one clinic, so there isn't a lot of overlap. I doubt you'd have much time to do more than one if you're involved in anything outside of clinics.

I quess I was asking if it was a difficult clinic to get into...if its prestigious among students then I would quess more of them want to be a part of it type of thing?....but I was just wondering?

The only things that boosts your chances at clerking are your GPA and your professor recommendations. Whatever school you go to, find a clinic that genuinely interests you - don't worry about prestige. Clinics require a fair amount of time and work.

Also, I don't think that UVA reported this, but a second group of students from the appellate clinic this past year won their appeal (it was only decided last month). I came across it by accident the other day while doing research.

Why is your name "crossingforHYS" if you're genuinely interested in applying to UVA ED??

A lot of students that are in the Supreme Court Litigation Clinic end up clerking (in some cases, for the Supreme Court itself), but that's probably more because the people who want to clerk end up doing the Clinic, not because the Clinic gets them clerkships (although the professors who run it would be great references to have).

You mean you didn't want to be a big law partner at 5 like everyone else? Weirdo.

Some general questions:

In the casebooks, are we supposed to read/pay attention to the footnotes?

What's the locker fee for the semester?

What's the best note-taking software for Macs?

You're in section K, right? If so, never read or pay attention to anything. Just fly blindly through the semester.

You should skim them (so that you are at least aware of them in the unlikely scenario that you are asked about a footnote in a cold call), but reading them carefully is probably unnecessary.

Twenty-five dollars.

1) Depends on the Prof - in general, don't spend a lot of time on the footnotes, but you should read them. In reference to the end notes/comments - you probably shouldn't spend a lot of time on them, but you should read them. You'll get a sense of how much you need to do as the semester gets started. Remember, you have to crawl before you can run.

2) $25/year

3) MS Word - I have 1 doc for each class's notes (if allow laptops) and 1 doc for each class's outlines (which I don't start until the last 4 weeks)

Related note - no, you do not need to start outlining for quite some time.

Another related note, its worth briefing cases the first couple weeks. Don't kill yourself trying to do it, and keep it as simple as possible, but it will help give you a sense of the cases.

Good luck.

Right now, you should feel confused. If you don't feel confused, you should.

Everything will start making sense - just give it some time.

You are 3.9/176. Write a "Why UVA" statement. Enjoy your full scholarship. If you don't get a full scholarship, don't go to UVA.
