And if you have Peter Low for Crim, buy his supplement and read all of the practice questions and answers.

Email says tomorrow at 23:59 for the first round for 2Ls (second round overall, I think).

Yeah, I just noticed that E-mail right after I asked. Perfect timing.

If you have Peter Low for CivPro, you're dreaming and probably just slept through your 8:30 class.

Is anyone still looking for a place to live? I need to get out of the lease for the place I'm in, it's a 2BR/1BA unit about two blocks from the law school. PM me if you want details.

Hey guys I'm new to TLS and I searched for my topic didn't come up with exactly what I'm looking for so go easy on me if it's here already :) .

Anyway, I just finished my 2nd undergrad year, and I'm looking at law schools. UVA is the only school I'd be 100% sure that I'd be satisfied attending, so naturally if I do apply to law school it will be my top choice. My question concerns its loan forgiveness plan. I'm very interested in public service/government positions, and UVA's website http://www.law.virginia.edu/html/public ... orgive.htm makes it look like it's a really good plan, and that if incomes aren't above $55,000 and you're working in public interest you won't pay anything. However, the TLS article on Virginia says that it's loan forgiveness plan may be weaker than the federal plan. Would anyone who goes/went to UVA be able to tell me more about their experiences with loan forgiveness? Is it as good as UVA advertises?

Thanks a lot!

UVA's program works in tandem with other loan forgiveness programs, including the federal one. For example, if you go to work for a nonprofit making less than $55,000 per year and you stay there for 10 years, UVA's LRAP will pay your payments for those ten years, and the federal LRAP will forgive the remaining amount of your loans at the end thereof. Between the two programs, you wouldn't pay a dime for your legal education.

I noticed on the academic calendar that there is a fall break from Monday, October 4 - Wednesday, October 6. Is this a time when students wind down for a couple days? I wanted to have a friend visit and want to plan accordingly.

Thanks.

Yeah, there will be no classes during those days. I took a brief vacation to New York (Friday night to Wednesday night) and didn't miss anything important. You can really plan on not having anything important happen those days.

Nice! Yeah ticket prices just go up so they gotta get em early and I want to be somewhat of a decent host. Figured if anything else, I can buckle down the days before the break and enjoy the few days off...

Is there an outdoor club at UVA law school?

Edit: Never mind. I did a search on the student organization page and found it. :)

Hi, All.

Questions from a newbie:

When do I register for classes?
When should I buy my books?
How much will I spend on books?

I'm a blank slate, as you can see.

eljay wrote:When do I register for classes?

You don't register for classes for first semester. Every 1L takes the same four classes (plus LRW), which are assigned to you. You can register for two electives for second semester, usually in October or November.

eljay wrote:When should I buy my books?

After you get your class schedule, which should be within the next two weeks.

eljay wrote:How much will I spend on books?

Since there won't be much time to get online books, you'll probably have to buy them at the bookstore, in which case, expect to spend $600-$800.

I believe it was YC that suggested buying the books at the bookstore, ordering them online, and returning them to the bookstore once your online purchases arrived. What are your thoughts on this?

This is a fantastic idea. I think I saved something like $250 - $300 doing this last year.

Actually, I forgot about that. You can do that - just don't mark up any of the books from the bookstore. Buying books online is certainly the way to go after first semester - even new, they are still a lot cheaper than the bookstore.

green from another another topic wrote:I've had Mitchell and Geis. Mitchell can be funny, but I didn't find that he was a great teacher. And the B+ curve sucks. Geis is great in lecture and gives very straightforward exams. I'd recommend him.

By the way, is there anyone at UVA who actually likes the new course selection system? I can think of at least 5 reasons why I hate it.

Not that it matters at this point for the incoming class, but anyone care to elucidate further on this "new course selection system"?
