I've been extremely happy with my 13" MBP. It's stable, reliable, well-built, and because I bought it from UVA, I get a three-year warranty with instant loaners if anything happens. That gives me comfort that I can easily get a backup laptop if it dies right before finals (though that hasn't happened and I doubt it will, this thing is solid).

hmm. if only they would release their bundles

I hear great things about Microsoft OneNote, but have my heart set on a Mac for school. Would you recommend getting Windows for Mac for the sole reason of getting OneNote, or do you like the Mac note taking software just fine?

Real men take their notes with pen and paper.

I know that just asking this question is to peer into the eye of madness, but anybody know when grades are supposed to drop?

You cannot look into the vortex! No one is supposed to see that!

I noticed quite a few complexes listed a 10 minute drive but 40 minutes if you had to take public transportation.

You should be able to park in the Blue Lot or not get a parking pass and do the Arlington/Harris Teeter lot GAMBLE.

Do you mean it's a gamble as in "you might not find a spot" or as in "you might get towed"? I'm just far enough from campus that I'll need to drive once in awhile (heavy rain, snow, running late, etc.) but I plan to ride my bike most of the time and drive when I have to do so. I don't know if it's worth buying a parking pass for the entire year...

On a related note, about when does the weather get bad in Charlottesville? Think I can make it most of the first semester on my bike?

Arlington = you might not find a spot
Harris Teeter = you might get towed

Appreciate your replying in both threads! I actually admire that attempt at parallel parking, or at least the complete disregard for social and parking norms that it demonstrates.

I'm battling a towing company over $200 right now and I'd rather not go through it again. I'll probably just break down and buy the parking pass.

To fully explain the gamble:
1. UVA does not ticket you right away. You get a warning first.
2. There are several apartment complexes nearby that have (had) lax towing policies.
3. There is free parking down Arlington.

By juggling those you could potentially go the entire term without buying a pass. It has been done. I parked at the school without a pass whenever I was in a rush and never even got a warning.

At least for my complex, they have turned into complete dicks about towing at random times. I had to borrow a car for a week and they towed it from my private parking spot. So yes, 'had' is the correct word.

Sad to see this blog ending. Do any 2Ls think there will be another to take its place?

Since you know what firms are coming to OGI... and you'll have your grades in the next few weeks... you guys will basically know what firms you'll bid for and be able to interview with by the end of June, right?

Do you just spend the rest of the summer researching the hell out of the firms and polishing interviews skills (along with doing well at whatever job you have now)?

Bids are due like July 12th or something, so we have until then to figure it out. OGI begins August 11th. Considering we all have jobs and many of us will need to relocate to Charlottesville, and the amount of drinking it will take to undue the effects of 1L, I'd say we're not exactly blessed by an abundance of time.

Career Services will have their phones ringing off the hook, there will actually be a pretty narrow window during which time 370+ 1Ls will have grades and need advising.

Urf. Grades. I have pledged and promised to wait to check mine until all or in - or at least 2 of 3 - to avoid unnecessary heartburn.

Career services isn't offering some type of firm bidding seminar/advising? When do you have a chance to use the videotaped practice interview sessions?

Yes. Also, One Note is highly overrated imo.

OneNote first semester but ended up collapsing it into word for my outlines anyway. Word second semester.
