IMHO, strong networks are more important than grades at the end of the day.r6_philly wrote:That's the same thing I tell everyone, but it's funny only certain people from certain industries get that.icouldbuyu wrote:

ITT 0Ls with multiple jobs AND job offers talk about getting through law school and going to get jobs?RVP11 wrote:ITT: 0Ls discuss what's important in getting a legal job

Re: UVA 2L taking questions
I had multiple IB offers coming into LS, so I would hardly say my opinion on how to get a job is irrelevant especially since I graduated from a non-elite UG.r6_philly wrote:ITT 0Ls with multiple jobs AND job offers talk about getting through law school and going to get jobs?RVP11 wrote:ITT: 0Ls discuss what's important in getting a legal job

I got 2 jobs at F100 companies with a GED, before I got my BS. No it doesn't happen with everyone but it isn't impossible for 0Ls to know something about getting jobs.icouldbuyu wrote:

It may be possible that some 0Ls know something abou finding legal work, but it's almost certain that they think they know more than they actually do.

I see you aren't certain enough to leave out that word.vanwinkle wrote:It may be possible that some 0Ls know something abou finding legal work, but it's almost certain that they think they know more than they actually do.
ETA: we are talking about getting a job that pays well with a JD, not necessarily a firm job through OCI/OGI.

Re: UVA 2L taking questions
Regardless of the back and forth going on concerning 0L's knowing anything about finding jobs, maybe a current UVA student could answer this question. Same as Law Sauce, I have been wondering what happens to the ppl that don't land anything during 2L OGI. If you don't do something PI/Gov related during 1L summer, do you have no shot at that either? If someone played a fairly safe bidding strategy, only applying to secondary markets w/ ties, what are the chances of not getting anything (let's assume the person is median, and the same question for someone below median)?barry wrote:Id like to get any ideas on this as wellLaw Sauce wrote:hey guys, question about people success with firms outside of OGI. Does this happen often in secondary markets that you can show real interest in? Or is it OGI or nothing? Also is this possible in smaller markets if you don't have great grades or do you need to give up on firms if you are bottom quarter?
I am honestly really terrified of going to UVa at sticker but im thinking of doing it anyway. I want to end up at a firm in a secondary market (philly or denver are my two ideal locations). Any help would be great. I'd appreciate PMs as well. thanks guys.

Re: UVA 2L taking questions
i don't really think that's a fair assessment on what is going on ITT, even if you're going for sarcasm. all i see is some 0Ls asking about how to get a good legal job from people who some experience because they're already in school. we all want to know more before we dive in and pay 50 grand a year in tuition at a lol school when the legal market sucks right now. plus the 0Ls who are answering are saying similar things to what i've heard 2Ls answer this question say. you don't have to be a dick about itRVP11 wrote:ITT: 0Ls discuss what's important in getting a legal job

There's a quote that goes something like, "I spent three years and one hundred thousand dollars to learn to put 'possibly' before every 'yes' or 'no' answer."r6_philly wrote:I see you aren't certain enough to leave out that word.

Where are you from? August will be unpleasant, hot and muggy, highs in the 90's usually, an occasional hot spell might get you to 100, but that's more likely in July. By September it's noticeably cooler. It doesn't really heat up again until late May or June, you'll see a lot of the 70's in April and May.coldshoulder wrote:This may have been asked before, but the thread is huge.

Sometime after everyone accepts their offers, the journals will determine whether or not they need more people, and if so, they'll take people from those who didn't make the initial cut. This occurs in April, so no need to worry.Doritos wrote:It exists but it is after OGIs from what I am told.jcunni5 wrote:has anyone heard of there being a 2nd round of journal tryouts? You are going to have a job just for thinking that. (seriously)Kohinoor wrote: No such thing as bad publicity imo.

How bad is the heat? The only time it's routinely above 50 degrees is during the summer; ie when there's a great chance that you won't be here. It was snowing a couple of days ago. To be honest, I've been kind of disappointed with the weather. I think Duke may be the only top 14 that truly has good weather.coldshoulder wrote:This may have been asked before, but the thread is huge.
