You should probably see a doctor, not a law student.

So, after our first closed memo assignment was returned we are faced with a startling reality. This school has become much more competitive.
A friend of mine visited his LRW professor to discuss his disappointing score. He was below the 50% mark in his class, and the professor told him that last year the same score would have put him in the upper 25%.
Goes to show that when a school is climbing in the rankings, every year will be tougher than the last with respect to the effort required to do well.
I think its encouraging. The 1L class here is committed to working hard and coming out on top of the pile.

The professor was a troll.

Also, all other students are trying harder at other schools. The students who would otherwise never go to Pepperdine are stuck there this cycle. How would this help its ranking?

Also, rankings aren't based on 'how hard it is to get the median score'. Pepperdine will always have negative name recognition, regardless of its US News rankings anyway. Enjoy.

Not quite sure why you think were stuck here.
The point about rankings was that as they increase, more quality students attend, which leads to increased competition and better quality. Why was this confusing for you?

+1. haha. I love them so much. I never connected Pepperdine farms with the law school. If law students get a discount on the cookies or the fishes, maybe I should reconsider Pepperdine...

Thanks for pointing that out. Wow. I guess its back to square one on my application since my personal statement revolved around my love for the Pepperdine Farm Milano cookies and my desire to go into food law.

Oh shit.

Should I e-mail the school and ask if they can just forget about my Why Pepperdine essay?

No. You should be good. This is straight from their website:

If you desire, please discuss any applicable reasons for wanting to attend Pepperdine. These can include, but are not limited to, Pepperdine's proximity to the beach or the fact that the word "Pepperdine" reminds you a lot of the word Pepperidge (as in Pepperidge Farm). Also, feel free to expound on the delicious-ness of cookies or crackers produced by Pepperdine Farms. The admissions committee is looking for concise writing and not whether or not you actually know anything about our school.

My essay was about how my two favorite things in the world are Jesus and cookies. Not necessarily in that order.
