I would love to go to USF if I could attend for a reasonable amount of money. Without a substantial scholarship I just cant rationalize the price for its academic ranking.

You guys could download the pdf from lsac.org about USF to see their finaid breakdown.
Anyways, I ll save you the trouble

%receiving grants = 30.9

less than half tuition = 22.9%

half to full tuition = 7.4%

full tuition = 0%

more than full tuition = .6%

I also called and asked; no full tuition schollys are awarded!!

No full scholarships, huh? That seems weird. I have received a full tuition scholarship at another T3. I thought they would use those scholarships to attract students with better than their average numbers.

If you go on LSN, you can see that if your numbers are well above their 75th %ile their "policy" seems to be a 25k scholly, which is not to bad after all.

I guess it is somewhat like UMiami's 23k handouts...

If that was a per year sum - SF is expensive!

Anyone got any insight on job prospects in the bay area? Do you absolutely have to be top 10%? Or, does the degree do pretty well in SF?

I was wondering about this as well. I was told they were well respected by an attorney that works in the bay area but beyond that I haven't heard anything.

I was offered $25k per year.

I was kind of insulted.

Well that was point. Seeing as they don't go above $25,000 per year then why would you think that you deserve to get more than anyone else ever does.

I think USF's bar pass rate is pretty high. They also have a great conflict resolution program, which i"m particularly interested in. Can anyone give info on the kinds of students in general who choose to go?

I have actually spoken to a couple of 1L's at USF. They were incredible helpful in telling me about the school and their experience there thus far. Both people I spoke with expressed how the school is under-ranked. They were accepted to higher ranked schools but chose USF because of the collaborative atmosphere. Most students who attend USF are interested in human rights law or public interest law from what I've been told. Besides the long hours of studying and hard work, it seems like USF offers a good law school experience. I'm going to visit on 4/13. I can let you know about my first-hand experience after that. Hope this helps!

Let us know how the visit goes. I applied past the priority deadline but think that USF is a great match for me. The COL and tuition are pretty frightening though.

Folks, USF Law school is a superlative place to get a legal education. It's my understanding that most of the Superior Court judges in San Francisco went to USF. Their legal research and writing program is great. The grading is tough, but generally USF has high bar passage rates as a result. Justice Ming Chin on the California Supreme Court went to USF.

I believe USF is one of the longest established law schools on the west coast and has been around longer than Stanford law school. Also the facilities at USF are great, such as the athletic facility.

Your call. I'd pick where you want to live and then go to school there. The respective prestiges of schools like USF, Santa Clara, San Diego are all comparable.
