underrated depressing aspect of law school?
Doesn't it suck being trapped in the same building all day? One thing I've noticed during my tours and ASDs is that all law schools are basically just one building. So it seems like law students are pretty isolated from the rest of the university, and just rotate between the law library and lecture halls. I'm sure most TSLers don't care about something like this, but it definitely struck me as a little depressing.

They don't lock the doors. You don't have to study at the law library.
Every once in a while I'd leave to study in a coffeehouse, or the undergrad library or something, just to switch things up.

It's 24/7 man. 24 hours a week, 7 months out of the year.
Seriously you'll be in the law school a few hours a day like 4 times a week.

One pretty simple way to combat this is by studying elsewhere. Maybe that's too radical of an idea. Often law schools are on campus of a university that offers a plethora of study options. There may even be a cafe or coffeeshop with free wifi. I'm not sure how technologically advanced universities are nowadays.

I can think of a dozen different non-law places to study at Columbia.

SMU has 4 buildings with a quad in the middle. Depressing part? umm the amount of debt some of the students have cuz of the high tuition. Definitely arent members of tls

Hah - was going to add obscene tuition, a professional degree program that fails to confer practical education, two unnecessary semesters of 3LOL, weak career earnings of top law school grads vs. top b-school grads, etc.ilikebaseball wrote:Depressing part? umm the amount of debt
Homogenity of study space is least of a 0L's worries.

I'm basically only in the law school when I have class, a meeting or want free lunch. Also we have more than one building.

I hardly leave the law school 8-5/6ish. It's nowhere close to the top of the depressing aspects of law school list.

I sit at my desk at work for 8 or 9 hours a day. I almost never leave the building even for lunch (there is a food court in the building complex). I'm not worried about this aspect of law school at all.
