Top Law Schools

I wasn't sure who to ask, but I was wondering if a Lewis and Clark student could answer this question for me. I'm a student at New York at Cardozo, what I like about the school, at this time, is that no matter what you do, the lowest grade you can get on an Exam is a letter grade of C, and you can never flunk out. So I was wondering if the curve at Lewis and Clark was the same. While looking at Wikipedia list of law school curves, I realized that Lewis and Clark has a higher curve than Cardozo, but I don't know if this means the lowest grade you can get at Lewis and Clark is a B or if you can get something like a C, D, or even an F and flunk out because of it. I am super curious about this, and wondering why no one else mentions these things on the forum since it seems almost important when choosing a law school. I know all third tier schools you have the chance of flunking out, but I always thought that at all top100 schools it was impossible to flunk out. I only know that at UF and Cardozo, you cannot flunk out, but not sure about the others, or Lewis and Clark.

I am also not sure if this is just due to the curve and if the curve is just a 1L thing, and that is the reason you cannot fail in the first year at any school, but I am thinking this just depends on the school.

Yep, no problem anyways, if I say in my resume I am the greatest researcher it means nothing. Anyways, I saw that before I posted on here, that is what made me curious so I asked. The problem is that all schools have that, even my school, but from experience what they mean is different from what they say. This could just be saying that was the policy before 2005, and that your chance of failing depends on whether you take the exam at all. The only way to get a failing grade at Cardozo is to not take the exam. The other problem is I don't know if this is true after the first year. That is why I asked, I am really curious how this policy operates in the classroom from a student at the school.

Of all the schools to be curious about, why are you curious about L&C?

well I can't quite answer your question, but I remember my friend saying that no one cares about your grades at LC until you start getting a 1.8.

Well, L&C used to be pretty much like everyone else, a C- is an F. (to get an F you'd have to like, not show up or scribble song lyrics with crayon)

However, apparently last year (Class of 2015) they were trying something new with the 1L's, the curve stayed the same (which, 1st year classes are curved to a 3.0. Upper level classes, it depends on class size), but they accomplished the curve by handing out more A+ and A grades, along with D's and F's.

I'm not really sure what the thought process was. My boss at work actually asked me about it, because suddenly he had like 10 applications from people at L&C with 4.0 range GPA's, and that was VERY out of the ordinary. I have to think it had something to do with the ratings slide (which admin had to know was coming), and an attempt to make the strong students at L&C look REALLY strong compared to the 2 other Oregon schools, at the expense of the weaker students.

It will be interesting to see what they do next year for the class of 2016.

I did not notice similar in the upper division classes, which could end up being a shocker next year for those 1L's that might get their first B, lol.

Also, re: the recent class size decline, we do tend to add quite a lot via transfer. I didn't realize how many until I got my class rank for this year vs. last year. 1L there were 216 in my class, 2L was 280. We get a lot of Willamette transfers.
