Biglaw salaries?

Postby We'reAllGonnaMakeIt » Sat Aug 03, 2013 5:43 am

I've been reading a lot about salaries, and I want to know - is 160,000 a maximum?

Are there instances where people have starting salaries higher than 160,000?
Also do they have bonuses in biglaw firms?

There are a couple rare exceptions that pay above market but in general 160 is the max. There are bonuses, they vary a little more from firm to firm but you can search ATL for info on that

This is devastating.

Can anyone else give any imput? There are NO incidences when people get more than 200-300k for their starting salary?

My friend's sister is a 2L and apparently she got a guaranteed job for 300k. Is this real life? Is she a wizard?

160000 isn't enough for you? Your friend's sister is either lying or isn't working as a lawyer

Devastating? Why so? If you are looking for a $300,000 job right out of law school, you should probably look for another profession.

I don't know about a $300,000 job, though some SA who is going to London will make over $160,000 because of cost of living adjustment.

You have the resources. Do your own research. Making fun of someone who genuinely tried to help you, and then found your other posts on the exact same subject, is not a good look.

Wachtell once had 100% bonuses. Honestly, I haven't bothered to look, but it's certainly possible a WLRK lawyer is making $300k to start.

The only people I've read about that make that kind of starting money in BigLaw are those who were SCOTUS clerks, got a massive signing bonus, and were paid according to an associate scale that took their clerking years into account.

What exactly do you think a first year associate is doing that is worth 300k?

Also, if you're only in it for the money, look for another profession.

Thanks for a great response. What is SCOTUS?

This is either a troll, or someone intellectually incapable of biglaw.
