Does being close to home help?
I am just wondering if there are any advantages/disadvantages to attending a decent law school that is like 30 minutes away from home (let's say your parents' place--where you grew up), assuming you get your own housing anyway near the campus?

I suppose it depends on whether or not your umbilical cord has been cut yet.
But seriously--do you take comfort in having parents nearby, or will they constantly demand you come home for dinner and make you nuts? No one can answer this for you.

Yeah, not sure why this is being asked on a law school board. You're at least 21 years old I'm assuming, surely you know better than online strangers as to whether you would benefit from living close to home.

That depends on the parents.
Cost of living savings would be tremendous, depending on their willingness to feed you. Don't underestimate how much it can cost to live month to month, particularly if you haven't done it before.

Law school, and especially 1L, can be stressful. Having emotional support is a good thing. You can get it from friends, your SO, or whatever, but if being close to your parents provides you that emotional support then it sure can't hurt your performance.

As long as they won't expect to see you all the time, it can't really hurt. It would probably be nice to have a good meal with them every now and then and escape from the law school bubble for a bit.
