Postby analytic_philosopher » Thu Nov 15, 2012 7:24 pm

Which is the best way to email your resume + cover letter (for mass-mailings, etc.)?

1. Resume and cover letter attached in separate pdfs.
2. Resume and cover letter attached in single pdf.
3. Cover letter in email body; resume attached.

I can't tell you which way is best, but I can assure you that there is a best way and that if you differ from it, you will lead a life of ignominy and humiliation.

You know what sucks? Super long emails. You know what sucks even more? A bunch of attachments.

A single PDF with the entire application package in it is the correct response. The email should be 3-4 sentences that say "I'm applying for job XX, enclosed is my application as a single PDF file. Should you require anything further, please let me know. Thank you for your consideration."

I've always found it weird to have to write something in the body of the email saying why I'm applying when that's what the cover letter is for. I just cut and paste.
