I was wondering when certain (I guess goals) of mine should be accomplished in law school. I am looking for answers along the line of "spring 2L year" or something.
Thank you in advance
1) moot court tryouts
2) LR (are all schools tryouts? Or by grade?)
3) if I would like to try to RA, when should I pursue this?

At my school, tryouts and writing competitions are after spring semester of 1L ends.

Depends on the school. Some allow you to tryout as a 1L (even in the fall semester) while others don't let you tryout/join until 2L.Br3v wrote:1) moot court tryouts
This also varies by school, but it is generally right after spring semester of 1L. Grading criteria varies by school as well. My impression is that most LR's grade-on some portion of students, use a mix of grades and writing competition submissions for another portion of students, and use only writing competition submissions for another few students.Br3v wrote:2) LR (are all schools tryouts? No set timeline for this. Usually professors just put out a school-wide email looking for people or you just get to know a professor and RA for them. I think you can technically do this during 1L year but I would not suggest it. Lots of people do RAs for 1L summer or during 2L/3L years though.Br3v wrote:3) if I would like to try to RA, when should I pursue this?

FYI for you: there's no grade-on at our school

That I knew. top 30% AND write on for LR.
I also have little to no intention at this time for doing LR.
ETA: I will either get a job from my aviation background OR will be going the PD route and moot court, trail ad and commitment to the cause, (e.g. internships and clinics) will matter more.
