summer/OCI question from a 0L

Postby Triveal » Mon Aug 20, 2012 11:47 pm

Say you go to school at Penn. If a firm comes to your school for OCI and has both a Boston and a NYC office, can you request one over the other? What if you go to NYU and want to spend the summer in Boston? What are the limitations on this?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but most of my understanding of the OCI process comes from what I've gleaned from stickies/posts on this forum. So yeah.

1. This is not what anon is for.

2. The employment forum is not for 0Ls.

(I have remedied both these.)

It depends on how the interview slots are allotted. Usually you can bid on one or the other. They are different biding options at OCI. So the choice is yours. Sometimes they have 1 interviewer come in to interview for both offices, and you have to tell them which you prefer. The firm won't mind you bidding Boston if you go to NYU.

To answer your question:

Some, but not all, firms will bring several offices to OCI. Sometimes they will use one interviewer and say "please rank up to 3 offices" when you apply. Sometimes each individual office will interview separately and you would have to bid them separately. Sometimes firms will say "no multiple interviews" and you are not allowed to interview for more than one office. Sometimes only 1 office of a firm will come to OCI and you will have to massmail your application to that firm's other office(s).
