1st - that mac is $1699

to respond to what you are saying, i am confident I can find a PC at that price point with better specs

but in the interim, i leave you with the following:

Macbook pro specs:

2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
8GB 1600MHz memory
750GB 5400-rpm hard drive1
Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory
Built-in battery (7 hours)2

Price : $2199

My laptop:

intel 2920 i7 (best sandy bridge mobile processor)
16gb of ram
240gb SSD (this is a storage vs performance thing, an SSD reads/writes at 500mb/s, the HDD in the mac does so at 10mb/s)
Nvidia optimus 2gb
9 cell removable battery

price :$1100

twice as good, (less than) half the price

No, considering we are in Law School, we get education pricing. Thus it is only $1,599.

And the MBP is $1,999 with student pricing. Is yours 15"? Even if it is, you just provided a similar, perhaps marginally better-spec computer for half the price. That can hardly be considered "twice" as good.

Oh I'm not defending Mac software. Microsoft Office is the king and everyone knows that.

I do have to say for posterity... I hated the Macbook I had... but the windows computer i have now that was supposed to be so cool sucks a thousand times worse... So, yeah, Mac sucks, but actually this windows computer sucks way harder even if the specs are supposedly pretty cool.

Also, I hate the iPhone, but I have tried to switch to other platforms (i.e. top-of-the-line android phones) twice, and it was like talking from a phone booth in the 80's compared to the iphone (the sound quality was so poor)... Also, can these other companies not figure out WTF "smooth scrolling" means? Fuck me.

Yeah, but the Pro can store 3 times as much shit, even if it's not solid state. All I'm saying is that it's ridiculous to say that not only are Macs twice as much as other computers, but that they are half as good as those computers. I'm not denying that they have inflated prices, I just think its bullshit to say they're shitty machines on top of that. I'm curious as to what you find in regards to the iMac.

I just don't get why non-Mac owners get their panties in a bunch over people using Macs. Do you get pissed when people buy a cheeseburger at Wendy's instead of McDonalds even though it costs more? The hell difference does it make? It's not your money.

And besides, there are plenty of reasons people pay a premium for Macs that add to the value (and can't be accounted for in your your comparisons). I want Mac OS. I want the Mac trackpad (which, I'm sorry, blows every other trackpad out of the water). I want the sleek and attractive designs of Macs (may seem frivolous, but people spend more for cool-looking products).

I just don't get what strikes a chord in people to freak out over people who buy Macs. It's as if you guys don't realize that some people simply like one product better than another (even if it is not the better product) and spend more for it.

i just dont like Apple as a company
they do grimmy things that affect the industry as a whole

look at the shit show going on right now in court vs samsung

also, someone else owning a mac can screw you over, especially if you are working with them and they can't open certain files and you are fast approaching a deadline

but i do agree with you to some extent, you did raise some valid points

That's fair enough. But I must say, it appears their case against Samsung has some serious merit to it.

Interesting...I hadn't heard about that lol. I must say though that the documents Apple have provided in regards to the iPhone don't look good for Samsung.

Out of curiosity, where did you buy this laptop or did you build it yourself?

OP: About half the students in my section last year used Macs, but not a single one that I know of used Pages. Word is the way to go (although OneNote is IMO the best method of note taking, it is unavailable for macs).

Not to open this back up, but:

Ecspecially with personal upgrades, how did it only cost you $1100?

thats a pre-configured model
i bought it without a cpu, hard drive, or windows license

and the added perk of buying a custom one is that you can negotiate the price
