I met one of my future professors at a book signing. He volunteered to help me with something.

Well, given all the snarkiness, I've decided that this was a very bad place to come for advice. Don't criticize me for trying to succeed. I get the feeling that you all are the type to act like you aren't trying to look "cool." What is this, high school? Have fun in doc review...

No way this is not trolling. Do schools even have section/professor assignments out yet? I know my school won't for a while still.

Enjoy big law. From your prestigious TTT. I also hope you enjoy the magical dragon you'll get at graduation.

No one is saying that. We're just saying that this wouldn't help you succeed in any way shape or form. So you should just relax and save this energy for when it counts.

8) My response was a nod in your direction, acknowledging that you hit the nail on the head.

Hey guys, I'm starting law school in the fall at a decently well-respected T3. Some of my profs have already put up the first class assignments and I almost done with most of them. So far, I've really enjoyed it! Is it taboo to contact my profs and ask for some additional material/discuss the cases I've really enjoyed? I want to get involved as early as possible but don't want to seem like I'm brown-nosing. Thanks!

Give the OP a break. I tend to have extended discussion with my professors on the class material both in class and during office hours. If you enjoy the material and want to converse with the professor do so. There is nothing wrong with that, rather it is a beneficial exercise.

Good luck your first year.

1) good chance YOU are a gunner.
2) That is after classes start, not during the summer before you have even met the profs.

After the final but before grades come out.

Though OP might say if you can start this summer, you might not even have to go to class.

If your professor is this guy, I believe right after the waiter brings out the bread, water and menus....

From ATL:

"A criminal complaint has been lodged against Clark Calvin Griffith, a former adjunct law professor at the William Mitchell College of Law. Griffith is 70 years old, but he stands accused of unzipping his pants and forcing a female law student to squeeze his penis. Makes you wonder if they serve Viagra in the William Mitchell faculty lounge." See: http://abovethelaw.com/2012/03/elderly-sports-law-professor-accused-of-unsportsmanlike-penile-conduct/

If that isn't quite your speed op; try getting in touch with this professor:

Thank you for this piece. It is refreshing to be able to find a reputable source instead of the usual TLS anecdotes.

You sir, are a natural gunner. Please read the following thread for tips on what you can do to cement yourself as the BMOC in law school. I wish you the best of luck: http://www.autoadmit.com/thread.php?thread_id=83485&forum_id=2&fb_source=message#1345100
