would it be unwise to pursue an internship with the state department or the office of white house counsel for 1L summer if I'm shooting for biglaw?

Why would it be unwise? What else is there to do in the summer and how does that have to do with grades?

You'll probably need to absolutely kill it with your grades to get one of these internships, but as the vast majority of BigLaw-bound law students do something other than firm work their 1L Summer, it won't affect your chances at BigLaw.

LOL....office of white house counsel is probably much harder to get than biglaw

is the assumption here that you will otherwise do Biglaw SA 1L summer? And if so, why do you assume this?

1L SA at biglaw isn't that hard if you got the resume/grades to get office of white house counsel or legal adviser's office at state

those places only hire the top students from Havard/Yale
