Also my school you can get externship credit for either. Also, what is "keep a journal." Also depends on the school.

Without seeing the details of how the school operates externships and internships, it's impossible to say.

Got my govt externship from a connection. Told school what I was doing and filled out an app to make it a for credit externship. Secured a faculty member to supervise. Kept the journal. Got the credit.

But yeah depends on the school brah

I was under the impression that internships landed through mailing were not involved with the school. I thought they weren't associated with the school and was just you doing your own thing over the summer.
That's true to a degree, but most schools allow you to find your own internship and then arrange for credit for it.
